They have to give up the ghost of ever winning the elections on their own.First thing they have to do is give up on the PM post and bring all the secular parties together and fight BJP  together for the next loksabha elections. That means they may have to give up huge no of seats to regional parties but i think this is the only way to beat BJP in 2019.

Only choice is kick out the dynasty and their slaves to form a new leadership. Capt. Amarinder Singh is a good choice.

Captain Amarinder is 76. If you want to restart a party around a new core, the main members should be politically active for at least the next 10-15 years.

Except for a small fact that this has never worked the the past. Not to mention one big risk that by staking it all against party  the support base might actually increase for BJP. And if you don't win that election, your so called "Secular" parties might get pulverized into  oblivion. If you aim high and miss, the opponent becomes stringer. That is the story of Modi so far. BJP has a very strong case of pitching it as stable vs unstable govt.  To have 15 party coalition govt that could crack any moment would disastrous for Indian polity and economy. There has to be a stable govt in place for people in India.

The only way to attack BJP now is focus on issues. Don't listen to online debates, opeds, intelligentsia and make the narrative around secularism. For common man, this is irrelevant, as long their rights are not infringed. Make it about issues. Remove Rahul Gandhi, empower state leaders, develop a strong ground support. This is not a 1 year project. This will require atleast 5 years to fructify. Understand the changing aspirations. There was a time when George Bush won an election only on ant-gay slogan. That might not work now. All politicians have to adapt and change with changing narrative.

if they wanted to remove rahul gandhi, they would have done it a long time ago. the problem is congress will have too many power centers without the Gandhis.   Its like how the BJP was before Modi-Shah stormed in and became kingmakers through sheer force. Even Advani didn't command as much respect and fear that Amit Shah today commands among not just BJP cadres but Indian politicians in general. Congress needs a similar figure but so far it has just been either someone from the Gandhi family(Indira or Sonia) or someone close to a Gandhi who is propped(Mani Shanker Aiyar for Rajiv Gandhi and God knows who for Rahul Gandhi)

Gandhi can be there. But let them work with another PM candidate. The issue is politics works on cultural waves. Today it is BJP’s wave. But you can see that it will recede in next 3 years. But by that time if the opposition remains in shambles, this govt can go unchallenged for next 10 years. The opposition doesn’t have a leader or narrative.

Its not that they dont have a narrative but it is sham. This is primarily because opposition is a hodge-podge of factions that are led by Lallu, MSY, MB, Maya. If the quality of opposition improves, BJP will have to improve a notch up as well. But until then people only have an option of BJP.
