He will do the 5th bowlers job well. And he avgs 60+ with the bat in decent batting conditions

Also is in good shape. Recently scored 80+ and picked up a 5-er in his return to domestics post injury

I have seen enough of his bowling to know he wont be able to bowl on these wickets,he will be cannon fodder like umesh Yadav.you cant have a 5th bowler who is massively leaking runs when runs are a premium like in this series.

I too was in favour of playing 7 specialist batsmen, including Pant, for this test match.  (  usually, I want 4 pace bowling options outside Asia  ).   Because we cannot afford to lose this test match.

But  a specialist batsman makes sense if and only if he is batting like a specialist batsman ...  and not for the sake of it.

Rahul and Vijay have not added any value to the team this year.  Even Vihari looks very susceptible to the rising short ball but he looks decent otherwise and should play.

Rohit would have added some value to this team ...  but in his absence, Pandya would not have been any worse than Rahul, with the added ability to bowl seam.

But he adds value as a batsman too .... if you think conditions don't support his bowling (which is ok for a 5th bowler), they will support his batting (as I said avgs 60+ in decent batting conditions)

guy has won us a test match with his bowling, so, there is certainly more to his bowling than what you have seen.  here is the last FC game he played.

Agree .... Pak was street smart in this respect in the past. They would play Moin Khan as a specialist batsman if others were struggling. Imran Khan is said to have flown in Izaz Faki for a test in India, where the guy scored a 100 and picked up a wkt

As others have mentioned, Pandya is missed only by OP :phehe:. I tried arguing in vain with the OP in another thread regarding Pandya. He doesn't seem to give up despite no one agreeing with him. He has the ability to bore people with his "logic"

have you read the thread? Seen the support for Pandya?

PS don't get carried away by those Pandya haters posting their customary posts on a thread supporting Pandya's inclusion (most of them have their agendas) :hysterical:

I'm not getting carried away by anyone. This match needed a proper bat. I have told you a couple of time that Pandya can't be tried in a key game and he is coming from an injury. You keep quoting that 90 against SA and his cowbelt innings against SL. Clearly you have Pandya poster in your bedroom door :phehe:

Ppl shud stop saying Pandya 93 was a fluke.....WTF was fluke in It???? he played proper shots ...didnt get runs from edges...attacked when he didnt many partners left and thats how 6 numbe player game shud be .

93 is a fluke

5 wkt was a fluke, 50 in same game was

100 vs SL makes no diff to them

70 against afghanistan , oh it was afghansitan what if we were having a collapse

He only has played 11 in games .....what are ur expectation. IF u have big ones go see what other players did in the same series. Neither he was the worst bowler in england and neither worse batsman in Sa.....he was better then many. N how diff is to understand they were the toughest scores. Against those attacks in their backyard a guy like pujara failed to avg above 40 .....here we are expecting from pandya

Also if anyone calls that 93 was a fluke , shud check his innings on seaming track against a Pink Ball on Aus-A tour where all our A batsman failed.
