Three players that I want to root for in the Pataudi Trophy 2018

A trip to England has either been feast or famine for team India no matter what the format is. Memorable moments include a) Test series wins in 1971, 1986 and 2007, b) ODI World Cup win in 1983, and c) Champions Trophy win in 2013.

There have been some exceptional individual performances as well including Kapil's batting both in Tests and ODIs, Vengsarkers 3 100s at Lords, Dravid's battling inning that won India the test in 2007, etc.

If I had to pick 3 Indians players that I want them to do well, they would be:

a) Pant: If groomed properly, he could give India the flexibility that for e.g. Gilchrist and Flower provided to Australia and Zimbabwe respectively

b) Pandya: A talented player with a never say die attitude. Conjures up a magical inning every series. Has scored 1 100 and 3 50s in 10 test innings. Averages 37 with a SR of 85. Add to that the 5th bowling option that he provides, giving India the flexibility to either go in with 2+2 or 3+1 bowling options for the 4 specialist bowling slots. He is among the best fielders in India

c) Kuldeep: Probably since the famous 4 spinners, Indian spinners have not had much success relatively speaking in non subcontinent conditions. Over the years, we have seen the likes of Warne and Murali spin their teams to victory in England. Can Kuldeep develop in to a spinner who can do well in most conditions? Kuldeep, of course, is not in that league yet but does have the ability to give Indian bowling attack the element of mystery

I want these 3 players to be given the full series. They would take the WK, AR and 1 spinner slots. India would then have to pick the best options for the remaining 8 slots (5 batsmen + 3 bowlers)

Including these three I want to see Kohli , Rahul and DK and our two fast bowlers (Umesh and Shami) succeed in England.

Two of these are unlikely to play mite than a game if at all.

My simple rooting guide:  Are they representing India?  If yes, root for them.  If not, root against them.  If not *and* if yes to Pakistan or Australia, hate on them.

I will root for whoever suits up for India.  All 11, plus the drinks guy and coaches.

That’s understood though .... the thread is more about the 3 players you would want in the 11 and therefore also make an impact

Next 3 (Tier 2)

d) Pujara: Test specialist. Worked to gain experience in England so I hope that the effort that he put in pays off

e) Rahane: Test specialist. One of the batsmen who can do well for Ind in non subcontinent conditions

f) Rahul: Gifted batsman. Would like to see him do justice to his talent

Actaully success of Pant at Test level will send a lot tremors .

This will mean he will almost need to be  guaranteed a permanent spot on T20 & 50 over ODI. ( But Team mgtment may still block him out)

That means Some big Old tree have to fall  , due to this Tremor !

Thats why we should accept that Pant wont be given chance in this Tour  .

A very remote chance , if at all  DK messes up big time , even in that case may be given 1 test
