That is faulty logic.Thats assuming both business houses has same amount of expenses.

BCCI  have to  invest in a billion people market in a developing market to develop infrastructure.

Making money isn't equal to net profit.

Yes, that's why mentioned that actual revenue per resource could determine whether their demand is justified or not. Otherwise we can't say for sure that they are being paid fairly just because India has lower cost of living index.

The purchasing power and cost of living are completely different to make such comparison though.

Our cricketers are the top most paid sportsperson in India.English cricketers aren't even in the top 100 in their country to put into perspective

Indian players are not asking for flat rate equivalency with other countries.  AFAIK, they are aiming for a percentage of BCCI profits to be allocated for player salaries, especially national players.  I believe Australian salaries are set up that way.  Its actually a very effective way of doing it - cost to the board is fixed on a relative basis, but players will make more money as the board makes more.   Problem is that with the board raking it in with both hands, even a low percentage would mean a lot of $$ for the players.  Even the Australian board is trying to back away from this system.

Historically,  Indian players made a boatload of money once they made it to the national team from endorsements, so the nominal contracts and "match fees" didn't matter much.  With the IPL, now the endorsement talent pool has suddenly expanded beyond the top 11 or 15 players, by adding a minimum of 20-25 IPL "stars" who compete for the endorsement rupees, and also the IPL teams as well.  Sure, the top white ball players make money from IPL contracts also, but not everyone gets a big payday - Pujara, Abhinav Mukund etc are prime examples.

I think its totally reasonable to expect that a test calibre player should get a bump in compensation - the purchasing power argument - "oh they make so much money, so they shouldn't be complaining" is total BS.  Same argument can be used against all of us for what we do for a living by people who make less money at their jobs.

Anil Kumble is a smart guy, and has historical experience with the contract issues.  No wonder he's among the leading voices to set up a percentage allocation for the player compensation amounts.  Best way to ensure a big chunk of money dedicated to player salaries.  And even within that, there's ways for BCCI to keep salaries from ballooning up massively.  They could dedicate a percentage chunk of revenue for all player compensation - domestic and national, including pension schemes.  BCCI shouldn't be allowed to use populist arguments like 'players are rich already' etc -  And this is a very good time to ask this question given that the entire BCCI is under the reform microscope.  What percentage of revenues can be considered as a "fair share" for player compensation?  Out of the total amount allocated, what percent should go to the 'elites' i.e. the national representatives?

Players who play tests exclusively should be duly compensated. Others have IPL, LOIs, sponsorship contracts to earn from but test cricketers play the hardest form of the game and even some kid who slogs in IPL for a couple of overs ends up earning more than him. Simply not fair.

It will also be an incentive for players to play test format exclusively and not let other formats affect their game.

            Glad Kohli raised the issue.

It is shameful that the bcci has no problem sharing the booty with the state associations for buying votes like it is their baap ka paisa ...but is miserly sharing it with the players who earn the booty.

R Ashwin does not agree. Of course cannot say it openly. Here is the interview where he was asked question about Shashtri saying players being paid peanuts:

What do you think about Ravi Shastri's statement that players are paid peanuts?

I don't know what the clauses are. I am extremely proud that the Indian cricketers have a contract because most of the other sportspersons in the country don't even have a central contract. I would love to see a Mumbai Ranji player have a contract, I would love to see a TN player have a contract because we are privileged to have a contract as India players. We will have to change the mindsets in our country because at some stage people feel let's feed this guy at the top and make him feel grateful to us.

I speak my mind. I become a rebel, an outcast. I don't want to take a stance but we need an overhaul in our thinking process. Is it enough? Well, my family gets enough to live, so I am happy.

            That's why they get pension.

Tell me which other sports body provides pension to retired players ?

Paid less than your peers ? Check the purchasing power and cost of living ?

Our cricketers are the top most paid sportsperson in India.English cricketers aren't even in the top 100 in their country.

That's the peer comparison that is important.

No, this is an international sport and players have an international earning capacity. If kohli and others wanted, they could quit international cricket and play t20 leagues in England, Australia, Pakistan, Caribean, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh and earn a very good living. Kohli and ashwin are amongst the best in the world at their jobs and deserve to be paid accordingly.

Are Kieron pollard and Dwayne bravo surviving? Their respective t20 drawing power went up following resignation from windies national team and they're earning well and working at less frequency and intensity. If top Indian players were to walk out- IPL and national team will become meaning less. Remember what happened in World Series, boards shouldn't push players tooo much and forget who really brings in the cash.
