Is test and One day extension of IPL possible ?

Now that talks of 6 months IPL window are strong. Is it possible to have a test IPL or one day IPL ?

 

Pros : 

It will add versatility to the tournament. 6 months of T20 can be really boring. 

 

Will provide opportunity to the good first class players across the world to be part of IPL. 

 

Will make IPL truly a complete tournament which can be followed by masses as well as test loving elitists.

 

Something for those Indian viewers, who follow only Tests or ODIs in case India withdraws from the ICC.

 

Will most probably have no upper limit or increased upper limit on number of international players in playing XI so more quality cricket.

 

Questions marks :

Will it have enough interest in India or internationally to generate good revenue ?

What will be ideal months for these tournaments ?

Will India be able to provide variety of conditions which add charm to longer versions of cricket e.g. swing conductive English weather, bouncy tracks like Australia ?

One day is a good idea but test, hardly anyone watches tests in India.

I think theirs enough test fanatics that would watch a franchised based test league. 4 teams with all of indias best test players plus 4 international players could be very entertaining. I dont see how indians who can watch a test match between india and worthless teams like west indies or bangladesh would not watch a franchised test league featuring far better players. Its worth a shot atleast.

I think a 4 inning 2 day game and a one day format can be envisioned. 2 day game as it sits within a weekend still.

Then how is india playing 17 test matches per year? Is bcci losing money in playing these tests?

ODI is very much possible. I doubt most Indians care about test cricket except when India is playing, that too at a high level, eg last home season. When we were going through hell during Dhoni's captaincy many Indians lost interest in Indian test team.

there wont be many teams left for test as their wont be so many quality test players that u get in shorter formats 

Also overseas players will get to know the conditions better then before

This thread is an OTT reaction and utter nonsense.   IPL should stick to what it is.  The best T20 cricket league around.  And then expand organically so that it occupies a permanent 3-4 month window in the annual cricket calendar.

Not sure why people are being so hostile to a franchise based first class league, bcci is  already spending alot of money on multiple first class tournaments that dont bring in any money. Even if a franchise based tournament doesnt break even it can still save bcci money by eliminating some of these other touranments.

Actually there is a hidden assumption in my point in OP that BCCI decides to withdraw from the ICC and plays almost no intl cricket. That would leave Indian viewers who like to watch 50 overs or test cricket with no option. 

A 50-50 or test IPL can solve that and can generate decent revenue I think.

I agree that if nothing much changes IPL should expand.

children read the threads in ICF today within the context of the happenings of the day, like the ICC voting. People are just examining what could happen as a result, there are implications to financial matters and commercials, however wierd they may sound at the moment.

Jesus christ people, TEST IPL? Really now? Who the heck even watches regular international test matches let alone test IPL? And for ODI, I can't show any interest on it personally unless its national team playing. I am quite sure a lot of other people will have no interest on the ODI aswell.

I dont think so. You are making an assumption that quality players are available for T20 only. There are plenty of good FC teams in Eng, SA and Aus. IPL teams can scout and pick players from there.

They will not play in tests just like they are not part of any first class team now.
