Captain VK thinks we scored enough today

You count run out as bhuvi's wicket? Heh! Umesh too got one! :aha: Did not say he was the only problem. Bhuvi is now been touted to be a good death and hence warranteda spot even on batting fruendly conditions with no swing. At the end of the day Bhuvi went for runs in death overs. He was just as bad as others.

How blind are you?

After the 35th over, Bhuvi's 3 overs went for 25 runs.  And that's a bad day for him.  Umesh gave away 36 in 3.4 and nobody's surprised.   That says it all about their utility in the business end of an innings.  Umesh is only good enough as a 3rd seamer in ODIs, when you know you can afford not to bowl him out.  He can bully poor batsmen with his pace and bounce, but quality ones will score off of him at will - pretty much the same as Hardik Pandya, if you think about it.

Good wake up call.. they'll show urgency in scoring next time.. 350 is a must if we are setting the target.

England would have lost today's game against us because of attacking, risky game they play. SL surprisingly chased it sensibly.. 350 could have make them to panic..

I can understand if we lost 2-3 wickets in first 10 overs 310-15 would have been good but 100 run partnership upfront and still we end up with 320 that's below par batting.

This happened because Dhawan pulled a Rohit today.  In the past, he goes for broke once he crosses 60. Today he ended up with a run a ball century.   Like I posted earlier - our openers scored 203 in 207 balls cumulatively.   Its not always fair to ask Pandya, Jadhav, Yuvi, Dhoni etc to score at 150 SR, while the gloryhounds up front cruise to their landmarks.

Indian players are clueless. They even thought score against WI in t20WC was above par. They were targeting 180 :cantstop:

Its a strategic blindspot.  They refuse to recognize and adapt to the higher par scores in modern day ODI cricket.

Sure.   Pandit Maharaj and Ajmeri Baba told you that?   What about Rohit and Shikhar scoring a combined 203(207).  That's almost 70% of the balls allowed.  That's the biggest problem in our batting.  Not Dhoni with his not-great, but acceptable 63(52).

Sure Rohit and Dhawan are not doing their job of providing brisks start. But its really funny if you think 63(52) is acceptable on these pattas.

You will never defend 7 RPO no matter how good death bowler u have if u don't pick wickets in the middle.

Wrist spin of Kuldeep Yadav would have helped on these tracks.

Maybe.  But can't afford to play 2 Yadavs and a Pandya in this lineup.   That's 3 potential bowlers who may not finish their spells.  You saw what happened today.  Plus Kuldeep brings the ball into the right-hander - if he doesn't get much purchase on the wicket, he could really get taken apart.

Poor batting strategy, and Yadav's unreliabilty has been exposed today.   Let's see how Team India responds against SA.

It is not Umesh vs bhuvi. Umesh has always been an expensive bowler. No surprise.Bhuvi cannot take wickets on a flat wickets bowling upfront and he cannot bowl good at death. Bhuvi wasn't great today becoz he is Andhon mein kana raja. and others were terrible.

Dunno how that's possible when gunaratne hit next over of Bumrah for 11 and Bhuvi for 10

Let me put it this way... had Umesh bowled in the ball park of Bhuvi and Bumrah and had figures of 0/54 off 10 overs instead of 0/67 off 9.4 overs we may have had a chance. Umesh's 2nd spell was p*ss poor and took away any chance we had.

7 RPO is undefendable nowadays.  You need at least 8.5 or more to have a shot for the last 8-10 overs. Only the really good bowlers can defend that on a flat track.

Again they had so many wickets in hand and Bhuvi or Bumrah were hammered by same batsman so they would have chased anything.

I'm saying openers are more culpable for the eventual total.  Dhoni did what he could - not saying he did well - but not for a lack of trying.  This is what he is now.   He's not what he used to be.   But the openers are playing well below their capacity.

Hardik has to be used with new ball as he was doing well against England in that role and Yadav in middle.overs where he can get some wickets.

Eff that.  Bring Shami in for Yadav unless he's not fit.

I like your suggestion actually, but the problem is Hardik can sometimes be smacked in the powerplay unless there's a bit of movement.

That's why Umesh not bowling in the middle overs today has to be the most perplexing part. Bhuvi & bumrah had overs for the death so why not use Umesh in the middle overs where he can potentially have the biggest impact. I hope someone asks Kohli about this move coz I was so surprised seeing Umesh left with 5 overs to bowl at the death when he should've bowled most of them in the middle overs.
