ThePhenomenal1 Posted June 12, 2017 Posted June 12, 2017 Bat first? Bowl first? What changes would you make and why? Or same winning team? Will kohli keep to the aggressive bowling and fielding captaincy that helped choke SA or will it be like the SL game where they expected SL to collapse and let them coast with easy singles? Expecting an Indian win but can't take any opposition lightly.

In case India wants to go with an extra seamer, I would go with Shami in place of Ashwin. As for batting first or second, I would leave it to the Indian team as they deem fit as they would know the condition of the pitch and how it's likely to play. ThePhenomenal1 1
ThePhenomenal1 Posted June 12, 2017 Author Posted June 12, 2017 Agreed and shami would be a great selection if the track requires another seamer. Really looking forward to this game and want to see india make a statement with positivity. Ultimate_Game and vishalvirsingh 2
Khota Posted June 12, 2017 Posted June 12, 2017 pandya Out - yadav in field tight . It is India's game to lose. BD cannot win it. They dont have the horses. But if India takes them lightly there is always AI flight at Heathrow.

He gives us batting firepower lower down the order, is a gun fielder as he showed in ABDV's runout today and can get a few overs in. He lends quite a balance to the team and I wouldn't tinker too much with the winning formula.

SRT100 Posted June 12, 2017 Posted June 12, 2017 I would replace Pandya with Shami. It gives Kohli three strong fast bowling options with the two spinners. All 5 bowlers are world class. Pandya is not a world class bowler. I dont even rate him a world class all rounder. He is a bits and pieces player. A solid all rounder should be able to get into the team based on their batting or bowling alone.

Yes that should be the way to go worst case we bat first and in trouble then ashwin can come ahead of jaddu.
tweaker Posted June 12, 2017 Posted June 12, 2017 Same team Slow start Rohit & Dhawan should not take risks for 20 over. Useful contribution from Kohli, Yuvraj, Dhoni India 280/5 Line & length bowling Tight bowling from both spinners Bumrah to finish tail with Yorkers Every bowlers 2 wickets each India win by 60 runs
Pollack Posted June 12, 2017 Posted June 12, 2017 Why do people forget Pandya is a fifth bowler and batting allrounder? Rant of being expensive doesn't make any sense. He has been bowling decent for a fifth bowler. His lower order batting is required as I don't trust Dhoni and Yuvi like before even if they play good. AuxiliA, MCcricket, Ankit_sharma03 and 3 others 6
NareshK Posted June 12, 2017 Posted June 12, 2017 Same team. If batting first, get to a decent start with wickets in hand but make sure to target certain bowlers after 25 over mark. Cant afford to leave it too late because BD can bowl decently at the death. If its a complete patta like the match against SL, go for 350. If fielding first, same approach as against South Africa.
beetle Posted June 12, 2017 Posted June 12, 2017 Weather report??? I hope DL doesn't come to the party .
MCcricket Posted June 12, 2017 Posted June 12, 2017 9 times outta 10 India should beat Bongs easy, if we bat second it's a formality, batting first we need to keep same intensity, I feel India /Eng final and Poms have been beaten by this team earlier also I see their bowling attack as average with Ball, Rashid, Moeen, Stokes all leak runs, even Wood does but is lucky to get wkts.
zen Posted June 12, 2017 Posted June 12, 2017 (edited) Pandya is undroppable as he can make impact in batting, bowling and fielding, the parts adding up to offer more value. His contribution in some form is almost guaranteed I would bring in Shami in place of Jadhav / Yuvi if required. If Ind loses top order wkts quickly, the chances of the extra batsman pulling it off for Ind are minute. If Ind don't lose early wkts, Pandya, Jadeja, Ashwin, etc. can combine to give a few quick runs. In either scenario, we will need a strong bowling attack with various options available to the captain PS playing Karthik at number 4 is a good option too. Currently, Yuvi and Jadhav appear to be replacable if required Edited June 12, 2017 by zen

In either scenario, we will need a strong bowling attack On flat wickets, 6 bowlers are an overkill. If we have 3 or 4 regular bowlers who can only bowl, there will be poor balance because all bowlers will go for 5 RPO minimum and will not bowl a side out. Usually we need to restrict opposition for less than par score like 300-310 and try to chase it down and for that you need a longer batting lineup. Cant drop Jadhav because he is one of those hitters who can accelerate down the order and I think we have enough bowling options. If we need more bowlers, we just need to pick batsmen who can also bowl in the future. Edited June 12, 2017 by NareshK

In ODIs, you need batsmen who can bowl, bowlers who can bat. Cant have only specialists who cant afford you options. Its just the nature of the game. Good points but on good batting wkts, the opportunities for the extra batsman to do a lot usually are limited esp. if he gets to play less than 24 balls. All rounders can combine to act like the extra batsman. Which is why it is not a bad idea to actually strengthen the bowling Going for wkts is the best way to restrict any team Edited June 12, 2017 by zen Mosher 1
