Whats happened to Suresh Raina

I don't understand why you keep clubbing Raina and Jadeja together.  Jaddu plays as a bowler.  Raina plays as a batsman.   It's never a choice between the two.

Jadeja broke into the team as an all rounder and his batting is also given quite a bit of credit . Jadeja purely as a spinner has never been a good choice nor does anyone see him as a purely spinner - the reason one see's Ashwin purely as a bowler and Jadeja as more a bowling all rounder

Raina  has performed decently with the bat and the ball and they both field similarly hence the comparison.

I'm not saying that Yuvraj should play. But Raina definitely shouldn't play. Short ball can be a problem even in shorter formats on certain wickets with the right bowler. Not the type of liability we should look to carry in our team.

Agree that Rohit is not perfect, but he's a cut above raina and has held his own at the top of the order.

Next World Cup will be in England and raina played horribly in CT2013.

I cant belive we have people who think Rohit is a better ODI bat than Raina .

Raina would be in my top 5-6 all time match winners for India , a complete team player .. His 2 knocks in WC Sf and Qf has more weight-age than anything Rohit has done am pretty sure will ever do .

Disagree with your version.

Middle order can only carry so many aging veterans - Dhoni is in due to his glovework, which made it boil down to Yuvi and Raina - Raina is seen as a #6 specialist due to the failure of "Project Raina".  And Yuvi is the bigger "name".   So when push came to shove, Yuvi was preferred to Raina.

Thats a bloody tough position to bat , you cannot judge players playing so down the order statistically . If he can bat at No3 in T20s and be successful , what makes you think he cant do that in ODIs ? its just unfortunate that he never got a consistent run top of the order and score some meaningless runs and inflate his stats .

He did get a bit of a run but wasn't able to cash in.   I'm a big fan of Suresh Raina, and feel that he hasn't gotten his fair share of appreciation from either fans or the team mgmt.  Head-to-head - would he have been a better choice than Yuvi.?  Maybe.   Jadhav could have batted at #4/5, while Raina could have slotted in at #6 - his experience, skill, and selflessness at that spot is just more effective there.  Jadhav has proven that his selection was worthy, but he's not the best fit at #6.

Again with the broken record of Jadeja's batting.   His batting is a bonus at best, he's nowhere near good enough to be considered an "allrounder" in ODIs or T20s.

So his batting isn't good enough for him to be considered as an all rounder and his bowling for sure isn't good enough to be considered as a specialized spinner then why is he in the team ?  He certainly isn't providing much utility then

Banjo, why are you always about a year late with your "insights".    Jaddu's bowling hasn't been effective in ODIs lately, and his position is rightly being questioned now.   In fact, before the CT final, I argued for him being benched in favor of a Shami/Yadav.

Banjo ?   Cuz I wasn't even on this website a year ago ...

Jaddu's bowling has been horrendous overseas for the longest time and I may be in the chosen minority than always saw Jadeja more as an all rounder rather than a bowler.  Hence his place being optimum to be comparable to another al rounder aka  Raina.

For me Ashwin is a specialist spinner howsoever bad he is , Jadeja never was

I don't recall a single match where Raina did something noteworthy with the ball.

Raina over the current Yuvraj any day but having said that both seem to be done...may be one more shot for Raina

But who's more finished out of Gayle, Watson or Yuvraj?...

Agree. Jadeja's the so-called "all rounder" is now only in the team for his fielding - bowling is toothless and whatever few batting skills he had have disappeared. May as well have him as the 12th man and he can field when one of the veterans gets "injured".

@sandeep Jaddu is in the team as an all rounder. not a pure bowler like Ashwin is. Jaddu has been an atrocious ODI bat his whole career and has really dipped with the ball after his 2013/14 purple patch.

Raina couldnt do a worse job with the ball in ODIs than Jadeja currently and he is a much stronger batsman than Jadeja.

Hasn't been horrrendous , can chip a few wickets when bowled and maintains a eco of 5 in ODI's is quite decent for a part time bowler

Same argument can be used to defend Yuvi's selectioln - he's also done well with the ball in the past.

Regardless, the Raina for Jadeja argument you guys are making is flawed.  It should be Chahal/Kuldeep for Jadeja.

Well at least Gayle(unofficially) and Watson(officially) have retired.....so I would take finished as a positive thing here and say Watson Gayle and Yuvraj

The only Flaw and some may agree with me is your giving Jadeja the designation of a specialist bowler and some people do not think so.  and It is OKAY to not agree that Jadeja may not be purely a bowler for some of us.    Raina and Jadeja to me is more comparable rather than Jadeja vs  Kuldeep.

He got fat. He should've maintained his fitness. He also didn't exactly score very many runs during his most recent run in the team, from what I remember.
