Vijay Shankar (Batting Pacer Allrounder) - Performance Watch thread

Recommended Posts

Vijay Shankar is a good batsman. He failed to handle the pressure in his first outing at international level in a pressure situation. Is that really so bad? People should have patience. Thoroughly unimpressed with his mental strength though. He hasn't had much IPL experience either. Crap tnpl doesn't count.

Vijay Shankar last batted in an actual match on 9th February 2018.  His next chance to bat was on 18 th March 2018.

So, a guy bats for the first time in an international match in the final few overs of a tournament final ... that too without having match practice in batting for 36 days.

Do people realize how difficult the situation was for him  !

Would any one of us on ICF like to play their first international innings in such a circumstance  ?

Sachin got a duck in his debut innings.

Dhoni, Dhawan, Raina - All got ducks in their debut ODI innings.

Dhoni off all people got runout in his debut. He went on to become one of the best runners in international cricket.

Debut nerves has done funny things to Greats of the games. And here only in ICF you expect everyone to perform from ball one.

Mustafizur has one of the best slower balls as and is a wonderful T20 bowler. It would surely be difficult for someone debuting to pick him immediately in the slog overs.

Your world class players have put you on elite no.7 in tests,no.6 in odis....whitewashes have become routine business with tailunted players playing in green shirts

There’s no need to bring Pakistan in this. Even with Indian cricketers having excellent coaches and a very strong domestic system along with a nation that treats the game like a religion, they are yet to dominate world cricket and churn out quality fast bowlers.

Spot on. When you are nervous even your trusted shots will desert you. That guy is a good offside player as well. Look what he tried to do against those wide slower balls. Tried to heave over on side. He will learn in due course there are times you just have to react not try to proact.  That 4 of yorker was a very well executed shot. He might look like a villain for us now. For TN he has played some of the very clutch knocks. Give him some time.

He is not Rishi Dhawan type of cricketer. He is more a specialist batsman as you can see from his shots. He is just not a slogger.

I’m just assuming from what’s being said in the thread. Maybe he’s better than Rishi Dhawan, but seriously how did that guy make your team lol. I know Pakistan ain’t at its best at the moment but we still have some sort of dignity and didn’t have 110 kph trundlers who bat at 8 lol. And that too on an important tour, so there’s no excuse of just trying to test players out.

Shankar is a powerful hitter who has been known to hit big sixes in domestic cricket.

110 kph trundler???  do you watch anything before opening your mouth???

Posters like you is the reason i have a hard time believing any actual reasonable people with any sort of analytical mind can actually exist across the border.  Pure attention seekers.

My dear... He is expected to be batting and bowling daily in nets.

Match practice is important but as a corporate opening batsman I used to play just 5 matches in a 3 month season but used to practice every Saturday for 4hrs and had no choice but to succeed.

Do some basic knocking and goto open.

Batting against a soumya sundar is an easy job at international level for India... He cud not do that well.

Forget him dear.

He hit a crucial four though. WHen he tries to play normal shots he does well. He tried to slog out of nervousness. WHen you are nervous you cannot pick slower ones. The one that he hit for 4 was a yorker.  Pretty good placement.  He has so many matches in IPL to prove himself.
