No way Larwood was a fast bowler. He couldn't have been fast medium, let alone fast. He was medium pacer at best.

Larwood's speed was estimated at between 90 and 100 mph. He was the only bowler that troubled Bradman in bodyline series because he was the only quality bowler Bradman faced...Sssshhhh

Ghanta, there is more evidence of him being a 75 mph bowler than a 90 mph bowler.

Lillee was first genuine fast bowler in world. Probably that's why he gets lot of credit. As for Ponting he is rightly rated, Dravid averaged poorly in SA and SL, and struggled in all tours to Aus except one, but still hailed as best batsman technically for all conditons.

Ponting Struggled Agianst Spin In India And Was Average Against Swing in England.You Can't Just Look at Overall Avg.Young Dravid Faced McGrath and Warne,Lee in his first tour ,He did well Againnst a Good Aussie attack of McGill,Gillespie,Lee.Even in 2008 he was too scorer in the Perth victory.

Larwood was fast for standards those days. There were other Pacers in 50s like Ray Lindwal, Frank Typhoon Tyson and then Wes Hall, charlie Griffith, Roy Gilchrist. Lilee maybe first in long time for australia.

Fred Trueman as well. Lillee was probably the first great fast bowler of the color TV era.

Thommo got a break just a little later than Lillee but Thommo was considerd the fastest in Australian circuit for long in 70s and late 60s.

One of the greatest in Indian conditions. As it goes without saying, he needs to perform abroad. Maybe he needs to watch videos of Nathan Lyon to see how he goes about his business in hostile conditions for spinners.

Hard to say since Richie Benaud who saw most of these bowlers felt Tyson was the fastest he had ever seen. So he could've been the first 90 mph bowler. May be even Hall who some observers felt was the fastest WI bowler they'd seen - even quicker than Holding.

Very skillful n very smart bowler. Effective, laxman-esque batsman. I admire successful spinners but with clean action, Ashwin belongs to this group unlike murli (unclean at least to the naked eye),  Ajmal etc. 

 

It's surprising actually that ash is so less effective relatively, outside the SC.
