Kohli is doing a great job, hopefully he remains captain until he retires or becomes a scrub.

Pataudi was one of the best we had tactically. He was brilliant even though he captained us against the best of teams in spite of not having many good players. Kapil Dev and even Sunny too were  better than him because even with limited resources those days they didn't look as helpless like we saw yesterday. And we were minnows then, yet they were tactically shrewd. Sadly the resources were limited and there was no SL, Bangladesh, Kenya, Afghanistan, Zimbabwe etc to get easy wins. Even Pak was much better then than it is now. Ti e will tell whether he is better than Ganguly ,Dravid ,Sachin,Azhar and Dhoni as captain.

 

For now imo Virat is only better than Wadekar, Bedi, and Venkatraghavan , though not in all aspects.

Kohli makes odd decisions that no one can ever explain.

Remember the Bengaluru test against Australia , when we desperately needed to win and he didn't bowl Jadeja for the whole morning session. And then Jadeja came on ripped through them and took 5 fer. Luckily didn't cost us that game.

Same last week we he suddenly took off Ashwin despite a left hander at the crease . Cost us the first test .

Kohli is not a tactical captain, he is more like lead from the from like Ponting . But the difference is Ponting had the likes of Hayden Warne Gilcrist Langer McGrath who are strong personalities in the dressing room and could challenge or advice him when things go wrong.

No one else in the side secure enough about their spot to challenge his decisions in the dressing room. Only solution is appointing a tactically strong coach but we have Yes man Shastri.

Kohli on field is still a good captain in tests and perfect to lead the side especially the growth of fast bowlers under him has been terrific .it's the off field antics and idiocy that has resulted in defeats after defeats and he still ain't able to find out the reason and take the onus on himself,he's still clueless !

I always see this pop up. Who do you think is a potential candidate that will do better than Kohli? I am in no means defending him here but who exactly looks like a captain material and can perform at the same time to keep his spot in the playing 11? It's not like We can get back the OLD Dhoni or OLD Ganguly. Those guys were proper captains, not this hot headed i'm too cool fella...

Bith have pottetial to stay in test side for long. I believe kohlis chopping attitude is root cause of their failure. Rohit ji is waiting for Rahane and Rahul/Dhawan for Pujara

Remember MSD and Umesh had issues. But when Kohli selected Umesh when he became captain, 

MSD was unfazed, allthough i remember Umesh making some public antics, but MSD seemed to have been indiffetent to it.

Thats quality of MSD, why we won a world cup under MSD. Leading a team

of legends and still garnering respect is no joke.

Kohli need to

learn this basic thing from MSD or players of past.

Obviously Virat’s captaincy has issues. Now Kumble should be quietly happy looking at things.
