3 duck outs and genius dhawan an almighty one run on this flat track..

Players can get out on flatter tracks as well, and many of the players deserve to be dropped to be honest, especially Dhawan!

But to me the question is how can this one innings be enough for Rahul to get a passing grade? The series is over, the chance of a win in this match is next to nil. Its the definition of  stat padding in a no pressure situation.

I think you look at the quality of his runs. New ball has been incredibly difficult to tackle. Give him a full run in Australia where the ball doesn't move side ways. He will succeed.

Agree with @Moochad Rahul is a no 4 or 5 in tests. Shouldnt be played in top 3 . Our thick tank insisted on playing him in the top order. We need new openers.

Might not be a bad idea,I can see him being a great counter attacker.

Apart from Curran,Buttler,Kohli and Pujara no one has scored tough runs this series. Cook and Root padded their stats yesterday against a 3 man attack. Rahul is atleast scoring in a no pressure situation compared to rahane and Dhawan who have failed even then.

Playing him in Aus isn't bad per se, as this will be his 2nd tour there, but some of the other failures this tour have also played well in Australia, and it will be their 2nd tour there as well

Here are the stats from our last tour there

Vijay and Rahane were both poor/failures this tour in England, but they were both averaging over 50 on their first tour of Australia. Therefore, I don't think Aus is the best test of batting, especially with their drop in pitches nowadays.

So according to you he should have joined the procession March yday when we were 2/3 . You are saying as if it's a pancake wkt . We are in 4th inning and still trying to save our ass and the guy made 68% of total score need some appreciation and post 2nd test he has improved a lot. These conditions are very harsh for opner even English opner failed miserably. Eng performed better than us coz they have good lower middle order and thts the major difference between these 2 teams.

Congrats Rahul on the century, but I will hold my horses on praising him too much as this is a dead rubber match and he did nothing when the series was alive. We shouldn't guarantee a place for him in the side based off this innings alone I think.

Really funny.

Tell that to Laxman whose 167 in Australia saved his career that also has a 281., Indians call the greatest innings by an Indian in Test cricket.

But everyone knows Dhawan is a hack in SENA countries (except Kohli and Shastri apparently)!

I disagree on Rahane. He has outplayed Rahul this series, although they are both poor overall this series(and Rahane should be dropped for the WI home series).

Rahane has an 80 at Nottingham (Test we won) and a 50 at Southampton in a tough 4th innings chase (we lost).

what's up people. It seems indian team has given a great fight to england on the last day. still play after lunch? unbelievable and IPL hero rahul has done a good job to save his place in the team. There would be a party thrown by cheerleader tonight to rahul for this wonderful knock.:cantstop:

Rahane plays at 5 and Rahul takes first ball strike for the team. Do u see any difference there?
