MechEng
On 2/11/2019 at 7:29 AM, Gollum said: This is funny, Kuwait messes up the Kazakh national anthem by playing the Borat version , to her composure KUWAIT: Kazakhstan's shooting team demanded an apology after a spoof national anthem from the comedy film Borat was played instead of the real one at a medal ceremony in Kuwait, the BBC reported on Friday. The team's coach told Kazakh media the organizers of the Kuwait tournament had downloaded the parody from the internet by mistake and had also got the Serbian national anthem wrong. Footage of Thursday's original ceremony shows gold medalist Maria Dmitrienko listening solemnly to the anthem before smiling. The ceremony was later rerun. The spoof anthem, from the movie featuring British comedian Sacha Baron Cohen "Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan", praises Kazakhstan for its superior potassium exports and for having the cleanest prostitutes in the region. (Reuters) This literally equivalent to Chatur's speech in 3 idiots.

MechEng
Honestly, the parody Kazakh anthem music minus the lyrics is pretty power packed. All Central Asian countries and Russia have pretty strong anthems.

Demi Lovato gave a great performance at Super Bowl, love Beyonce's version the best. The Whitney Houston version is one of the best versions of any national anthem. The American national anthem is pretty good, very difficult to sing though.
I6MTW
The Filipino national anthem is very underrated. The Philippines have very strict laws regarding their anthem, it should be sung in a particular way, like an upbeat march, if not the singer could be fined and jailed. The above versions are the best ones, but also illegal according to Filipino laws. The Japan National Anthem is good as well: Also the world's oldest and shortest National Anthem. BacktoCricaddict
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-india-33438577 I heard this a lot while growing up, and even believed it during my teenage years. Looks like this controversy will not die. Thoughts anyone? ------------------------------------------ More than a century after it was first sung in the eastern city of Kolkata (formerly Calcutta), the song that later became India's national anthem is again mired in a worn-out controversy. On Tuesday, the governor of Rajasthan state Kalyan Singh, a veteran BJP leader, pulled an old chestnut out of the fire by saying that Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore's Jana Gana Mana, had actually praised the British rulers. He said the phrase adhinayak jai he, which literally translates as "hail the leader" should be removed and replaced with mangaldayak, which means the "welfare giver" . His audacious remarks even made it to the front page of a prominent newspaper. He is not alone. Former Supreme Court judge Markandey Katju wrote recently that Jana Gana Mana, which became India's national anthem in 1950, was "composed and sung as an act of sycophancy" to George V, the only British king-emperor to travel to India. It’s one of those Sanghi things, we feel Vande Mataram should have been our National Anthem (rightfully so), Congress chose JMG because it is secular. But that part about singing it for the king is an urban legend among RWers. There is a good swarajya article on that. Read it https://swarajyamag.com/culture/why-must-the-rss-dislike-jana-gana-mana I do have immense respect for Rabindranath Thakur, the west messed up his lastname like they did with all Indian city names Edited April 6, 2021 by coffee_rules BacktoCricaddict
