There were two run outs in the same match that completely changed the momentum of the game and also possibly caused India's exit from 1992 world cup. It was at the Gabba vs Australia. Rain reduced match. India needed 236 in 47 overs. People blamed duckworth lewis as Australia made only 237/9 in 50 overs.   

 

As usual Ravi bot was poked around and made 25 runs 67 balls. Rest had to make 211 runs in  36 overs. Those days  that was not easy task that too on big grounds like Gabba. They even promoted Kapil dev.   He also got out. India was hopelessly placed when Sanju Manju joined Azharuddin. Back then Sanju manju was not exactly someone you could count on fast scoring like Rahane. But surprisingly he was accelerating well in that match. India was 194/4 in 42.1 overs. Needed  40 runs in the last 5 overs. Both Azhar and Manjrekar were run out.

Chasing a mammoth 377 South Africa was coasting along with 160/0 in 21 overs when he ABDV was run out by Shane watson

 

20.6 Watson gets the crucial breakthrough with a direct hit from long leg. It was the only way de Villiers was getting out. Huge wicket. Flicked to left of Watson and they think there is a two in it. de Villiers turns, rushes back but is beaten by the fast, flat and the direct hit. Australia's fielding comes to their rescue. All the players mob Watson. 160/1

Viv was such a badass, even when he got out cheaply in 75 final he inflicted 3 famous run outs, 2 of which accounted for the Chappell brothers. 79 onslaught is part of folklore and in 83 if not for Kapil's blinder he would have run away with the match just like he did in the SF against Pak with an 80 odd. Run a ball 55 in 87 QF against Pak, a low scoring match which WI should have won if not for Walsh. Not just a great player but someone who lit up the big stage consistently. And then we have stupid Indian fans throwing muck on the king to prop up overrated Kohli , hadd hoti hai yaar.

Funny you share this. I was catching some bad ass vides of Viv today morning.  That aura, stage presence he had was immense. I was thinking to myself what would have happened if these knuckle brigades from SRH and slow merchants from RR had bowled to him in his prime.

Dont think he would have surpassed the likes of Gayle, Russel in terms of hitting.  Aura does not make you hit big.  Gayle has/had as big an aura if not more.  Richards was more like Kohli. He himself has said it many a times. Also Richards himself played plenty of slow merchants in his time. Not like every bowler was bowling 90 mph then. he had plenty slow merchants from India, England, SL, and Pakistan to face. Knuckle ball is difficult to pick so who knows how he would have picked it.

That guy is also west Indian. He was ahead of time when it comes to blasting bowlers. Imagine him getting used to modern day thinking. All West Indians could blast the bowlers even then. Eldine baptiste an all rounder he used to hit sixes that would go out of the stadium.  Even Greenidge, Lloyd could blast the bowlers. Richards was special among them. People have to be at the stadium to witness the power of West Indian calypso cricket. Especially they all have this rasping square cut that is unique may not be the same as with 80s, 90s player. You could still see that shot with Dwayane bravo from time to time. When the uncock the wrist and middle it you often can't see the ball in real time.

In terms of brute power West Indians were always cut above the rest of the world all through their history. Even now Kohli cannot smash like Russell or Gayle. Not many can do what they do. Kohli is a different batsman. No less. But different.

The game is more than just brute force. Brute force comes into picture mainly in t20s but in odis and tests it is not a big requirement.

 

Viv had more power than Kohli and is also in the same class as Kohli as a batsmen but  Kohli is better due to his supreme consistency.There is no batsmen in history of odi cricket whose game was built for ODIs like Kohli.There is a reason why Kohli is averaging almost 60.Viv was not greater than Kohli as an odi player.Guy like Kohli would average the same in any era against any bowlers.
