velu Posted May 11, 2019 Posted May 11, 2019 (edited) Looks like most of the indian states allow slaughtering bulls but protect cows Considering bull is the favorite vehicle of shiva , they should be as holy as cows. Edited May 11, 2019 by velu
Clarke Posted May 11, 2019 Posted May 11, 2019 I like the map. Each state has the option to legislate based on people's mandate. sandeep and ravishingravi 2
ravishingravi Posted May 11, 2019 Posted May 11, 2019 I am increasingly in favour of discouraging red meat consumption. Both in terms of health and environment, it’s right thing. What does the constitution say on this ?
coffee_rules Posted May 11, 2019 Posted May 11, 2019 (edited) During 6th century to 12 th century CE, before the Islamic invasion, there were a lot of Jain kingdoms, even in South India. If they had prevailed, most of us would be Jains and eat only veggies and slaughter of all animals would be banned. But thanks to their influence, at least many of us are vegetarians. There are some Jain villages in India where meat is completely banned. Edited May 11, 2019 by coffee_rules
Gollum Posted May 11, 2019 Posted May 11, 2019 (edited) I am against govt poking its nose to monitor what people eat. Not in favor of beef ban at all, unless they come up with solutions about maintaining the old cattle (numbering in millions) BJP's thrust towards stopping bovine slaughter makes zero sense. Is this how they want to help double farmer income? What about leather industry and employment of Muslims/Dalits who have been in this business for centuries? If you can't create jobs, stop targeting employment opportunities of others. Some hypocritical Hindus have no problem migrating to USA/Canada/UK/UAE where beef is staple diet but sitting there they want to judge Indians about their diet (not directed at anyone in particular here..just speaking from personal experience with my relatives/friends). Meat industry will stay as long as there is such a huge dairy industry, can't consume milk, curd, paneer, butter, cheese daily and complain about people eating beef. Gollum Posted May 11, 2019 Posted May 11, 2019 (edited) Having said that I wish BJP brings in some laws and regulations backed by strict implementation to prevent animal cruelty in dairy/poultry farms, slaughterhouses, during transport etc. Animals should have rights as long as they live, enjoying outdoors space/sunshine/grass/nutrition etc and humane methods of slaughter, stunning before slaughter must be made compulsory. And transport must be humane, not 100 chickens strung together and hung upside down from sides of trucks or 40 goats stuffed in a small tempo. I care as much about fish, chicken, goat, sheep as I do about cow, bull, buffalo....no preferential treatment for bovines from my side, sorry. And not to forget BJP hasn't taken concrete action to improve sanitation, regulation (UP was just for show in initial months, no follow up) of the abattoirs and/or to get them away from centres of human population. All the slaughtering and waste disposal must take place in isolated places far away from urban areas for health and hygiene reasons. Don't ban them, relocate and improve their functioning in a scientific manner. What exactly is the BJP policy here? Edited May 11, 2019 by Gollum sandeep, wanted_desi, beetle and 1 other 1 1 2

Cattle release methane which absorbs CO2 in environment.

Also what after the milk giving bovines get old and stop giving milk. How do you propose maintaining millions of these animals? Our poor farmers can't be expected to keep them once they are of no use, so they let them loose if selling to slaughterhouse isn't an option. Gaushalas aren't feasible, we may need hundred of thousands of such shelters all across India and billions of dollars expenditure without any ROI. Stray/abandoned cattle are causing enough problems in rural UP, destroying farms and plantations. If you release them in urban areas they will be a menace for traffic and sustain on trash from garbage bins and sewage water...no one benefits, neither us nor the animals. Cattle causes global warming agreed but how is the dairy industry not to blame? Meat industry in India is side business, main product is milk and associated dairy products. Other countries breed cattle specifically for meat, not India. So if the objective is environmental protection all Indians must give up dairy products, automatically beef industry will also end. I think you have assumed a wrong guy for arguing. I am not actually in disagreement with some of the points you mentioned. I used the word « discourage », not ban or stop. When **** hits the fan, it will get banned anyway. Might as well start the discussion for a moderate path to use the cattle for environmental benefits. Jury is already in on impact of red meat on the body and people are already transitioning their dietary patterns.

Asuras are mostly black while devas and most Gods are white. But there are dark skinned Gods like Shiva and Kali. Kali is another avatar of Parvati just like Durga, look at this: Edited May 12, 2019 by Gollum Alam_dar 1
Gollum Posted May 12, 2019 Posted May 12, 2019 @Alam_dar Vishnu, Krishna, Ram are dark skinned as well...even Draupadi from Mahabharat and Yama (God of Death). Maybe more, I am not an expert in these matters. Alam_dar 1

Gollum Posted May 25, 2019 Posted May 25, 2019 BJP doesn't want bovine slaughter but no solution reg how to take care of 20 million stray cattle The old, stray cattle can feast on plastic in garbage bins and drink sewage water, get sick, injured and die a painful death...but no solution found. *ing hypocrites !!!
