Nikhil_cric Posted May 31, 2019 Posted May 31, 2019 The first day night game of the tournament pits underdog Afghanistan against an Australian side that has won all of its last 8 ODIs against India and Pakistan and , in preparation for the World Cup, beaten all of Windies, England and Sri Lanka as well. The cavalier batting of Mohammad Shahzad and Hazratullah Zazai and the wiles of the spin troika of Nabi, mujeeb and Rashid have caused upsets against test playing nations as varied as Lanka, BD, Windies and ,most recently, Pakistan. However, against a resurgent Australian side ,Afghanistan are clear underdogs and an upset is very unlikely.
I6MTW Posted May 31, 2019 Posted May 31, 2019 Highly unlikely of an upset. Though AFG batting has improved since the last WC, they're still inconsistent. Plus, their pace attack is nowhere near as good as when it first started entering the Intl scene. I can see an upset in the next WC if they meet, if AFG continue to improve. But, not this time.
philcric Posted May 31, 2019 Posted May 31, 2019 The only realistic way AFG can create an upset and win against Aus is if Rashid-Nabi have a great 8-10 overs in tandem and pick 4 wickets in that period.
maniac Posted May 31, 2019 Posted May 31, 2019 I don’t see them consistently smacking the likes of Starc and Cummins. Their best bet is to chase a total in the 200-230 range if they have a great time bowling first. The new rules makes it easy for chasing so don’t see them defending any score they make which will not be more than 250-260 at best even on the flattest surface.
rageaddict Posted May 31, 2019 Posted May 31, 2019 Afghans should use this game as a learning experience. Should look to Bat full 50 Overs .
Franco Vazquez Posted June 1, 2019 Posted June 1, 2019 Another one sided game and boring game on cards. Australia bowl first
I6MTW Posted June 1, 2019 Posted June 1, 2019 Why would Afghanistan opt to bat? They literally have no batting fire power apart from the openers(who either hit out or get out.) They had a much better chance(albeit very negligible) while chasing.
Forward Defence Posted June 1, 2019 Posted June 1, 2019 English crowd really getting behind the Afghans

putrevus Posted June 1, 2019 Posted June 1, 2019 Suddenly Aussie team looks so strong. They have all bases covered, guy Shaun Marsh would walk into every team other than England is sitting on bench.
Stan AF Posted June 1, 2019 Posted June 1, 2019 Watching Cummins bowl is a thing of beauty. Such rhythm, grace and tranquility.

putrevus Posted June 1, 2019 Posted June 1, 2019 Who is best third seamer for Aussies. The drop off in quality is so evident. They will miss that guy Richardson who got hurt.
