Impossible to win the WC with Indian team's balance

Winning the cup is a dream but I am happy with yesterday's result. Several positives - one of the top 3 stayed right till the very end, pacers as well as spinners clicked, and the chase stayed right on track despite early wobbles. Concerns - why Bhuvi instead of Shami? Kohli's jittery and brief innings. Rahul had a decent innings in the context of the game but it would have been better if he had played a longer innings. Lastly, we were lucky the target was small. If it were 270-280 I doubt we would have won. Our batters need to step up and show some solidity right at the outset.

Pandya is fine but second all-rounder is the problem. Jadhav is poor man's Maxwell. He should consider himself lucky for playing so many games for India. Shankar is still new.

Someone like Rana would've added more value.

Australia of 2003 had just 4 specialist bowlers but all were wicket takers.

But among those 4 specialist bowlers were 3 capable batsman Bichel, Lee and Hogg. They all showed their utility with the bat in the WC when needed.

TM is relying on Jadhav's bowling which is a dangerous though imo. In batting Jadhav will be peppered with short pitch bowling.

When you are going with two all-rounders, then what is the need to play Kumar. He should only be in the reckoning when we are playing 5 genuine bowlers. At best, he can fill in the role of a 3rd pacer.

Jadhav as a bowler or a batsman in the team is itself dangerous. He can get injured anytime. He is a physiotherapy patient.

Bichel basically saved their ass against England from dragging the team from 80/7 something to 200+ and took 7 wickets.

Our people should recognize the difference between genuine australian all-rounders and the phony ones.

Calling it now, with such flawed combination wherein Pandya is India's 3rd seamer,  Ind not winning the WC.

I dont see us getting a better combination given the resources we have

Kulcha cant be dropped unless one is injured or goes through a bad patch for some time so we have to play 2 seamers making pandya the 3rd one

I agree this is the best combination given the resources. Only if either of the wristy could bat alas

Tell me who is the batsmen who could have been groomed from 2017???I have not seen any that is my view.

You should have listened to Michael holding today. Said exactly what I said. Play specialist players. But then again, this is my view. We all have our own perspectives.

I think we will soon feel the heat because of a lack of a quality left arm seam option
Rampaging batting lineups like England and Windies today were thwarted only because of the left arm factor I believe

We play 10 specialist players. Only Pandya is utility player. Replacing him with a batsman obviously isn't possible, as it will leave the team with 4 bowlers. Replacing him with a (pace) bowler is an option, that will strengthen the team's bowling but will also significantly weaken team's batting.

What would be your XI from the squad, or even including players outside the squad ?

thats something we have to keep in mind for next WC

Develop guys like gopal, Rahul chahar n Markhande as they all can bat .......markhande is kind of a slogger but can hit . Their state team shud be told to make them bat atleast at 7 and if needed send them as nightwatchmen when possible. But this will take time...among them gopal looks ahead as batsman and took time . Rahul has the most ability i hope his batting develops till next WC

As of now no point talking about it.

one of those.. Ya.. Nice escape :)

Escape from what? :)

Do you have a XI in mind which could be better than our existing lineup? You can pick all 'specialists', no restriction :)

I think each team has their own problems. We just need to see how we can qualify for semis and then take it from there. 5 more wins out of 8 possible matches .

As a team I feel we are not perfect but on our day we can rule supreme.  We just need to have that belief for semis and finals. And we play as the home team in all matches considering our diaspora  in England.  Imagine what a boost that can give if the 12th man is on your side..

The  imbalance(s) I see are our number 8 and 9 can't beat and we have our 5th bowler as pandya / kedar.

But the remaining 4 bowlers on their day are wicket takers. This is not a bilateral where teams can know how the bowler bowls . So if 2 of our bowlers have good days we are good. In dhoni and virat we have great accumulators. In pandya we have a decent hitting option .

Come to think of it, we have a decent balance .  Rohit, shikar, virat are match winners individually . Pandya has x factor. Kedar can play decent cameos.

Raul in form is a beast. If pitches are patta,  ignore him at your peril.

Dhoni for all the negative vibes here is a talisman. Can conjure some magic for spinners behind the stumps. Nobody else has dhoni. He might not get you the quick runs , but he can do the job of stabilizing in event of collapse a la Steve smith.

If Coulter Nile could hit 90s so can pandya.

We have better spinners than others and we have bumrah and shami . Not many teams have this balanced attack. I feel this WC will be won by teams with more balanced attack and I feel we with Australia are one among the few . We are in fact a rung better than aussie in that aspect .

I don't care about the losses in league phase as long as we qualify for semis.

Go India Go !!

Let's be positive and stop wrist slitting .
