Is Shakib a more valuable ODI player than Sanath Jayasuriya?

Shakib is nowhere near as explosive as Jayasuriya. To most teams Shakib would be as valuable as a Tilakaratne. To Toygers he is Bradman. That said he is good enough to make the current Indian team at 5 or 6.

NO way in hell lol. Jayasuriya finished the match in 3 overs for India in one of the world cup. He turned a medium pacer into off spinner. Terminated his career in 3 overs.

I think even though shakib's stats look better on paper with a positive difference b/w batting AVG and bowling AVG, compared to the negative difference that Sanath has; at the end I always feel Sanath was a lot more courageous player than Shakib.

Difference between afridi and Sanath was that; afridi would throw responsibility to the wind when he takes too much risk, whereas Sanath would try his best to hit along the ground strokes after the fielding restrictions are lifted, to keep up with the RRR (without the genius stroke making ability of sehwag of course).

Yesterday Nasser Hussain was asking why Shakib is not spoken off in the same terms as greats of the game as sir Gary or kallis. The other commie was saying that's because of Bangladesh but the answer is wrong.

It's because Shakib is not heroic. His courage is not on par with Andre Russell or Lance klusener or Sanath.

How can he ever measure up to sir Gary or kallis? Simple logic.

Not sure how many would be able to recollect that incident but both SL games were disasters

In the second game Sachin was magnificent as usual, but aravinda was something more than that.

Even first game only he scored and got a 100. Honestly mid way of 1st match i though 270 odd was more than enough but Sanath just took it away.

I think when we got sehwag and he started making a mockery of SRL bowling, it felt like payback time for all Indian fans.

We had such a crappy team, i just looked at the team from that game our middle order was manju , azhar and kambli . We all know what Azhar did and who the rotten apples were which you see in that team.

Ofcourse Sehwag showed the way as an individual but i personally believe Sourav is the reason why we are what we are, he made us believe we were the top dog (we were or not is debatable)

SL played some amazing cricket. All you could hear was how are teams going to contain sanath and kalu.

Sorry Sakib but never heard anything close about you.

Yes  For a brief period he was every Indian fan's nightmare. But we had one who could tame him time and again.

It is none other than Sir Agarkar :hatsoff:  22 innings 10 times he dismissed Sanath.  Second only to Waqar who got him out 13 times in 45 innings.

Jayasuriya was a better batsman than Shakib. He did not care for his average. His average and strike rate was just awesome when considered together for those times. Offcourse he and Kaluwitharna had the license to take on the bowling attacks as the SL of those times had marvelous batsmen like Ranatunga and Arvinda de Silva who could handle things if the owners got out cheaply while trying to demolish the opponent bowling attack.
