ICC is the most useless international sporting body

Recommended Posts

I think its fair to say that late june to july is when icc events need to be held in the UK

We need to remember that the 2013 icc champions trophy was also marred by rain in this time slot. The final was effectively a T20.

Matches were abandoned during that tournament as well. (Pak v SL) (Aus v NZ) while India v Pak was also among many games with D/L

In 2017 same time slot in terms of months

NZ v Aus  , BD v Aus no result

However in those cases you had London Birmingham and Cardiff.  Which ignored the north west of England which is the wettest region. Nottingham (Trent bridge) is in that wet region. Old Trafford is in Manchester known for its rainy days.

This year the weather has been excessively bad. It did not take a genius to figure out that playing in this slot even during a normal summer there were going to be washouts.

Holy grail for England not other countries. Let them host that and give world cup to other countries

Personally couldn't care less about the Ashes this year. This summer was all about the World Cup for me and I'm *ing gutted it's been ruined by the weather. Just as I feared as soon as we had a nice summer last year

Playing in June in England was always a stupid decision and the weather risks all came through, and ICC and ECB didn't and still don't have contingent or any sort of mitigation to avoid further washouts. Morons of first order.

This world cup was always going to be flop, and rain just confirmed it as being worse than even 2007.

The 3rd paragraph is a load of made up rubbish that we've written off before in prior discussions and you know it.

Did the ICC buy a building in London to use as 'headquarters' for the WC, and will the ownership pass on to the ECB after the WC?

What part of this is "made up rubbish"?

I might be way behind on this but I thought ICC Hq moved to Dubai :hmmmm2:

Yes.  The ECB got the ICC to buy a building in London, to house the "local working committee for the world cup".   Guess who gets the building after the WC?

"Let's buy a building instead of renting one for a few months, it will be cheaper" - said nobody ever.

1) No

2) Depends on if the ICC want to have a location for their ICC Europe staff.

3) All of it.

"ICC Europe"?  Who the fck are you bullshitting?  I want ICC to buy a building in Mumbai for the 2023 WC "organising comittee", and then it can be used by ICC "sub-continent" and BCCI.

ECB are money grubbing thieves who screwd up the 2019 WC format to maximize the broadcast revenue, since they get to keep a lion's share of it.  They viewed the WC hosting as a once in 25 year lottery win, to be milked for maximum revenues.

Who cares about expanding the game?  Let's cut the WC down to 10 teams, so that the broadcast value of each WC game goes up.

Who cares about fairness and having actual games, let's minimize hosting costs by not planning for reserve days.

A municipal town annual fireworks display in the US would have a better budget than the pathetic "opening" party/ceremony.  Even "third world countries" like India would put up a better show for their local Ganpati festival, than what the ECB did.

ECB will work harder and spend more to market their new league, than they did on the WC.   Because they view it as a gravy train - who cares about the responsibility of doing your part as the WC host.

The ICC HQ is in Dubai but they also have a temporary office on-site in England for the World Cup local organising committee.

And its apparently "cheaper" to buy a building instead of renting for a "temporary office" right?

The BCCI is also unhappy with a plan by the ECB to rent an office to house the staff of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the Champions Trophy. "Then they are talking of renting an office, then buying over and then eventually handing it over to the ECB. All kind of those costs are built into that (overall budget). How can you do that?"

Any reason you missed out this bit:

he proposed office is expected to be a pre-fabricated extension to the ECB offices to provide a more cost-effective workspace for the LOC than paying four years of commercial rent in London. The workspace could be utilised either by the ICC's Europe staff or by the ECB post the 2019 World Cup.

That "bit" is the fig-leaf of an excuse to cover-up the ECB's daylight robbery.  Reporters often quote "both sides" when covering contentious issues.

4 years rent?  Why would it take the organizing committee 4 years to organize a WC - splendid job they've done of it by the way - stellar really.

blaming the ECB for decisions made by the ICCs local organising committee on their own responsibilities.

The ICC is being led around by its nose by the ECB.  The Giles Clarke faction calls the shots in the ICC anyway since the last 'red wedding' in the ICC which saw the BCCI exiled from the ICC power structure.

Its only a matter of time though, before the deserving kingpins are back where they belong:p:

Except that "bit" turned out to be the facts. The articles from September 2016 and still refers to the office as proposed. Evidently it hasn't been occupied for 4 years.

Facts because you claim it as such?  Or because its been verified?

Format-wise, I think the supersix format was pretty good - you start with group matches, but the top 6 play each other eventually, and the best 4 make the semi-final.   Could have made it a 12 team WC, with not too long a tournament.

England is not a big country - how difficult would it be to have contingency plans with alternative venues on reserve days?  Sure it would have taken a lot more work in terms of logistics and planning.  But a couple of hours bus ride and you can find multiple stadiums that don't have rain - especially for the following day.

It could have been done - they chose not to, to minimize costs.  ECB have looked at this WC to maximize how much they can milk it.  They made the ICC buy a building in London using the WC as excuse - the official reason was, its "too expensive" to rent offices for the ICC, for the WC duration - just buy one instead, and then the ECB gets it for free.  Nice isn't it.

And the whole cricket fan world hates on BCCI for being greedy - meanwhile its the ECB that's laughing all the way to the bank.

Being a small country, it also has rain simultaneously at most places.  it is raining most of the England at the moment.
