How to win the cup from heron

so we lost against a better team , on small boundaries and pitch that favoured tall fast bowlers .

Strategies se next time we come against these bulldogs

- first to all pak bros - it was in india’s interest to get uk out . India played as well as it could

-team selection will be huge factor - we ain’t getting turn pitches - bhuvi and Jadeja in for Shankar and kuldeep . At least batting depth will increase .

- pandya needs to bat higher at 4 . Our only and any chance is a 70 ball 100 by pandya batting first

-rahul - if he fails to find form against Bangladeshs then get pant to open . Need to score off first 10 - 60 at least . Can’t leave for dhoni jadhav to chase at 13 per over

- kohli - needs to have hunger to win the cup

mindset seems to be I am ok to get into semis

I'm starting to think we definitely need Dinesh Karthik down the order for his hitting. Maybe Jadhav needs to give away his spot as MS can't. KL Rahul needs to start performing.

Also, don't think we should just blindly stick with 2 spinners on flat tracks especially if we are up against a good batting side.

We are stuck with incompetent Rahul and a joker in Jadhav. Sharma can’t be asked to score freely as he might lose his wicket in first 5 overs. Game Over !

Kohli isn’t getting big scores either. Luck will play a huge part if we are to beat anyone in the SF. First, we need to access the pitch better. We cannot afford to play both the spinners on a batting patta. Get in Bhuvi. DK has to play somewhere down the line. Win the toss and always bat first. We are no longer the chasing team especially due to no power hitters at top and lower middle order.

Dhongi will not be replaced this WC even if he scores 30 off 100 balls.

Agreed

access the pitch

get batting depth if patta - Jadeja and bhuvi in for Jadhav and chinaman

karthick at 7 with pant to open with sharma . Rahul to sit with Shankar and enjoy the last two games

Kohli needs to start thinking of runs per over rather than taking it deep

  • Replace Jadhav with DK. Everyone else in the team has contributed one way or another except Jadhav. I guess even DK couldd have played the innings against AFG that he did. They aren't going to touch Dhoni so their is no point in talking about him.
  • If the track won't support spin bring in Bhuvi for Chahal, Kuldeep is a wicket taker and he came back well today, So I would keep him. Jadeja for Chahal tempting but he is neither a good bowler or bat. I would rather have BK who is going to give you 10 overs with good economy, a wicket or two and may even get a few runs with the bat than Jadeja whom you can't trust to do either.
  • we aren't always going to get a pitch we want, if the pitch doesn't turn our 4th and 5th bowlers are as good as neutralized. So on of them needs to go if this happens
  • Our bowling as good as it as seems is lost when we are being hit. Hardik after being hit came-back with cutters and banging the ball into the pitch, but Shami didn't seem to get the message. They took on the spinners by targeting them towards the shorter boundary, we just let them do it. we didn't try anything to make it difficult for them to do this. So basically we need a plan B if things don't seem to go our way rather than just trying the same things.

Bowlers should be selected on the basis of conditions and opposition. DK should come  in place of jadhav. If Shami plays, then three seamers are a must, as shami doesn't know anything about death bowling.

Most probably we will be playing England again in the SF at the same venue. The pitch is likely going to be flat and boundaries short.

Hence, it makes sense to drop one of the spinners (preferably Chahal) for Bhuvi. It's not set in stone that we should always be playing 2 spinners. Moreover, Bhuvi we strengthen the tail. The rest of the team is fine.

  • If we get similar pitch,Bhuvi is a must. Bhuvi & Bumrah in the death.Use Shami before 40-42 overs. If he keeps taking wickets,he has done the job.Bowl 2 slower balls atleast each over.
  • Kuldeep can bat,Chahal can't. If team has more left handers, then Kuldeep ahead of Chahal. So,our tail: Bhuvi at 8,Shami,Kuldeep/Chahal,Bumrah
  • Rahul is not working at the top.Either Kohli can consider opening, which is risky.Don't really see any solution to this problem.Unless KL goes attacking from next match, which is unlikely.
  • Jadeja in for Jadhav. We need 6th bowling option desperately. Jadeja in the field throughout 50 overs is a bonus. Jadhav & Shankar are not bowlers at all. So,can't depend on them.Win against Pak created more problems than it solved.
  • Message to Pant should be clear: Do not play reverse sweep,One Handed Shot & avoid trying to hit all offside balls into leg side.He is fine as long as he scores above 100 SR from start.
  • Pandya should avoid going too deep into the crease in all balls. It's too predictable.2-3 balls deep & remaining using normal stance.
  • Dhoni should not bat before 45 overs. The lesser balls he bats, that much better.
  • Squad selection was messed up right from the start.Team needed 1 extra pacer & 1 aggressive opener/middle order batsman.

Bat first if you win the toss.

Send Dhoni at 7 unless there is a top order collapse.

Stick with Pant in the middle-order and Rahul at the top for now.

Bat Jadhav at 4.

Don't pick 2 spinners in the SF vs England if are playing on a similar surface.

no. 9 after kuldeep/bhuvi and shami seems more reasonable. agree regd jadhav. if selected, he cannot play below 4 or 5 - he is not a power-hitter

Just found out that Edgbaston (where the 2nd SF is scheduled) is England's fortress where they have won 10 on the bounce across all formats :nervous:

if we play them again, it will be fun to see dhongi and our middle order tuk-tuk uselessly again.

It's almost a certainly that we'd play England again. There's no way Kiwis are beating them. Another middle-order disasterclass in a SF would be too much.

but it will at least prompt some changes. if we somehow make our way to WC final and win it, there's a strong likelihood of seeing the likes of shankar, DK, jadhav and even dhongi in the next WC :nervous:

Its crazy that we invested around 2 years on Jadhav when he questionable fitness track record and not much to show for in terms of performances outside the SC. The entire Selection Committee needs to be booted out post-WC.

FOr now, stick to Pant. He will come good by the KO stage of the tournament. I agree that DK's lower order hitting >> Kedar Jadhav, esp if the latter is never going to bowl. I thought the pacers bowled really well except Shami at the end, but you expect to get hit in the death overs. Even Woods and Woakes went for plenty.

Regarding spinners, I'm not sure Jadeja would've afred better than Jadhav last game. In fact, it could have been much worse. If anything on grounds with such small boundaries, I'd go with 3 seamers.

My XI going forwrd would be:

Rahul

Rohit

Kohli

Pant

MSD

DK

Pandya (floater)

Kuldeep / Bhuvi

Bumrah

Chahal (he has been terrific this WC, had a bad last game).

I also want to see a but more intent from Rahul. He has overdone the cautious start approach. What made Dhawan-Rohit combo so successful is that one off them always shows intent and scores at a fast clip. Rahul is certainly capable as we've seen in T-20s.

Better that he goes down having taken the attack to the opposition.

Changes will happen regardless I think. I am sure even Kohli and Noh!t are tired of defending Dhoni's tuk tuk by now.

Kohli seems to have lost(at-least temporarily) the Midas touch while chasing. He used to bat efficiently at or better than run a ball scoring centuries regularly but now he is falling repeatedly when he is only about half way done. Dhawan's absence is being felt big time by the team. Both Rohit and Kohli have to bat circumspectly as the rest of the batting can fall apart very easily. With Rahul turning out to be a dud, both are burdened with batting long and scoring brisk, which is not easy to do.

I doubt it... Even if we loose final or semi final due to another atrocious dhoni innings.. u will see kohli coming out in public defending dhoni.. this just doesn't end.. kohli as much as he wear his heart on his sleeves is the biggest dhonitard.. can't see him getting rid of mediocrity which has finally infected each nd every person in dressing room.. just look at kl rahul, he seems to have freshly graduated from dhoni school of inept batting with flying colours.. bloody dot ball eaters..
