He got 14 wickets in 4 matches and let me know how many games it took Bhuvi to get to 14 in the last year or so. In the England game with the that destructive line up we would be staring at a much bigger score had he not got wickets in the middle.

Well this is an even more stupid reason and negative. I saw Shami in that game struggle at the death with yorkers which is why he struggles in T20. But the guy is world class from the beginning to middle overs and can change a game unlike Bhuvi. Selecting someone to keep it tight in the last few overs is very negative. This will come to haunt us as if we play Australia/England we are playing with only one good seamer - Bumrah. Pandya and BK you can attack when you're set with wickets in hand and end up with a 350 total. I think Shami can bowl better than that in the death too, he's not anywhere as good as other death bowlers but is better than that performance.

We wouldn't have looked at a much higher score as no one would have scored 44 in 3 overs. The only match we conceded so much in recent few years is when bumrah had an off day in ct 2017 final. Otherwise with B and B in the team we never do

With B and B in the team we have been smacked around quiet often especially weak link Bhuvi. luckily Bumrah in the death and Kul-Cha have been saving his auss.

The point is 200 runs is as achievable for our batting as 240 will be, if NZ had a flourish towards the end. 

 

However, if NZ were batting well, and were on their way to a high score, with Bhuvi you would potentially save 15-20 runs at the death, making a 315 target a 300 run target, which fornour batting is far more achievable. 

 

With Bhuvi likely every target is chasable. With Shami even if we give less runs on average, due to the higher variance, there may be that 1 match where we give up runs which ourbatting cannot achieve. And in the KO state the team, arguably correctly, decided to take the safer route, which increases their chances of making it to the finals.

Bhuvi did get hammered against SL so it's not as if he had a case to replace shami

Another crucial point is that Kohli revealed India is planning for both the SF and the Finals.
And it's likely that India will be playing England in the finals.

 

We saw what the English batsmen did to Shami in the group stage. And they never looked uncomfortable against him. It's possible that they will be equally destructive against Bhuvi, but we don't know that, and he couldn't do any worse.

 

Thats possibly another factor in Shami's being left out.

He took 5 wickets for 65 - we restricted England to 330 cos of him not inspite of him

So I had free time with me... So worked below calculation

Averages of today's bowling lineup

Bhuvi 35.44
Bumrah 21.75
Hardik 40.65
Jadeja 35.90
Chahal 26.36

Add all their averages and then divide by 5 to get mean average runs given per wicket; later multiply it by 10 to know average score teams can get against this line up...

Let's do this...
35.44+21.75+40.65+35.90+26.36 = 160.1
160.1/5 = 32.02 runs given per wicket
32.02 * 10 = 320.2 average runs scored
Subtract by 60 to get approx. Best display and add by 60 to get worst display.

60 is 10 overs worth of runs which I have taken as constant in above to get approx. range of this bowling line up

So the range of today's bowling line up is 240 on its best day to 380 at its worst day

Let's try same on an ideal bowling line up for India

Averages :
Bumrah 21.75
Shami 24.76
Kuldeep 23.97
Chahal 26.36
Hardik 40.65

21.75+24.75+23.97+26.36+40.65 = 137.49
137.49/5 = 27.49 runs given per wicket
27.49 * 10 = 274.9 average runs scored

Subtracting and adding by 60 as constant we get approximate range for this bowling line up

Range is 214 at best to 334 at worst...

337 England scored, we can say on our worst day
214 Afghanistan scored, we can say on our best day

We got away conceding less runs against NZ because their batting line up is paper thin with only Kane in form and rest struggling including Ross and Guptill...

Imagine 30 overs of Jadeja, Bhuvi and Hardik against England or Australia !  I rest my case !

I feel that he was hard done by as well. Kohli's overemphasis on bolstering our batting (with bhuvi at 9) seems like it could slip up badly against Eng (who should be able to beat Oz), if we make it to the final.
