Shreya's Iyer is too hackish.

Is Eoin Morgan any less of a hack?  Buttler?  You don't need Gavaskar level technique to bat at #4 or 5 in white ball cricket.  But you need to have an effective and consistent batting method built around your technique.

I'm not claiming Iyer is the answer.  But let's give guys like him a fair shot, instead of recycling the Dinesh Karthiks of the world - only reason he got chances was because MSK Prasad wanted to give 2nd and 3rd 'comback' chances to 2nd tier players - probably saw himself in them.  He was discarded in the late 90s after a handful of chances, and probably believes it was unfair, instead of recognizing that he simply wasn't good enough.

Rest Rohit,Dhawan,Kohli & Bumrah. Made the same mistake after 2015 WC.Played full strength squad against Ban & lost.Wasted lots of series without testing new players.

Rituraj/Mayank,Shaw,Gill,AnmolPreet/Nitish Rana,Pant,Pandya,Rahul Chahar,Saini,Khaleel Ahmed,2 more pacers.

No. 4/5/6 have been the problem for India for the past 3years, and the reason we lost in the SF. Once Dhoni is gone, the need for solid batsmen who can arrest collapses and build partnerships, increases.

Assuming Pant/Kishan will play at 6 and Hardhik at 7, we need a solid bat at 4 and 5. These are the only possibilities I can think of at the moment: Gill, Iyer, Mayank, Pandey, maybe Vihari/Rahul The others need to prove themselves.

Iyer has to practice bowling 5 overs of his leg spin in List A matches that will increase his chances at no.4. Previously our top order like Seheag, Ganguly, Tendu, Yuvraj, Raina used to bowl when necessary. Thesenew generation of players must be asked to practice their bowling.

when Pak new generation players like Fakhar, Haris Sohail etc can bowl, whats the problem with Indian bowlers not practicing their bowling?

We need atleast 2 left hand batters in top 6. If Dhawan is gone  who can be that?

Right now only Pant is there. In 2011 we had Gambhir, Yuvraj and Raina.

Don’t think Rohit and Shikhar, who is injured anyways, will last till 2023 as they would be not at their peak. Also need to groom proper openers to avoid 24-4 type of situation when the pitch has something for the bowlers.

I would not mind fielding a young team in the LOIs with someone like Pandya as captain. Focus should be on test series, which is a part of WTC.

Ideally would want us to send a completely new and fresh side. If I were rohit, I would want a break. The team couldn't chase 240 when rohit failed sums up the story. Rohit and Jadeja saved kohli, shastri and dhoni. Else all 3 would have got exposed.

Technique seems overrated . We have had dhoni with limited technique shreyas could do no worse and he led capitals well this season.

Shikhar,dhoni,bhuvi,bumrah,kohli, kukdeep to be rested.

Dk,jadhav,Vijay Shankar, chahal to be dropped.

Rohit,Mayank,KL,Shubman,shreyas,pant,Pandya,jadeja,shami,saini,rajpoot.

Reserves - manish,rahul C, Shreyas G, nitish rana

Nitish Rana is the other good option. Left handers r game changers in ODI cricket.  Morgan Stokes Carey they all r handy in middle order & can easily maneuver field placements.

Technique is the reason for all the top order collapses .Before the WC,both Rohit & Dhawan kept getting out regularly overseas.

If Iyer or other youngsters have technical flaws, they should look to sort them out as early as possible.

They might not last till 2023, but you can't phase them out right away. Rohit for instance, you can't jus leave him out.

Putting a team with all youngsters don't help either. Its fine for them to bat around few seniors like Rohit. That is where they will also learn from guys like Kohli, especially in 50 overs.

Look where Windies team go playing all the youngsters? They showed immense talent in every game, but without any proper senior in the middle, they kept losing game after game.

Since Kohli is not on tour, its good to have someone like Rohit around and captain the team, if he is available. If he really wants to rest, then its a different thing.

Actually no.4 -5 is there for Iyer's taking now . But he lagging due to 3 issues -

     1. Inconsistency -  Goes for risky funky stokes which is not expected from no. 4  esp. vs Pace . So many times  got out trying to hit with angled bat towards point region and mostly nicked or caught to balls around or even on the stumps. In fact he is a much better hitter if spin bowling , yet  gets out playing silly shots.

     2. If he can bowl 3-4 overs when required decently would be great. But alas that may not happen by the looks of it.

     3. Not a blue eyed boy in Kohli's books , so not easy to get in when Kohli rules . The guy is a bit of his own man, has some attitude . One can imagine how Rat will treat such guys .

1. Rohit

2. Agarwal  ( backup for Dhawan )

3. Vihari (  stopgap for Kohli )

4. Gill

5. Pant

6. Pandya

7. Jadeja

8. Rahul Chahar ( backup for Kuldeep / Chahal )

9. Saini

10. Shami

11. Avesh ( backup for Bumrah)

12. Dhawan

13. Iyer

14. Khaleel

15. Axar

---  Rest Kohli and the bowlers who have played a lot.  Shami can lead the inexperienced pacers and Jadeja can lead the spinners.

---  Drop over the hill Dhoni, DK and Kedar

---  Drop Rahul because he lacks focus.

---  Develop Gill as long term No.4.  Don't bat him at 3 just because Kohli is not there.

--- Develop Pant as the long term No.5 and keeper.

--- Pandya should become the No.6 batter and 6th bowler.

--- This team has

6 bowlers

big hitters from 5 to 7

no deadweights

a potentially solid No.4 .

3 specialist pacers

2 specialist spinners

Bro no Axar please. Let us hope we don't take 1 step forward and five steps backwards. Rest of the team is fine. I would also like to see Gopal instead of Rahul Chahar to give us a batting option. we need some real 3d players fast.

Kohli & Bumrah will be rested!

Age old problem of lack of 6th bowler. We were found out too often, when bowlers (spinners mostly) beign hammered were forced to bowl out their quota
