If you miss matches points drop. Ash missed 3 tests in Aus, then the 2 in WI. Cummins reached #1 so fast with higher peak rating than McGrath because he hasn't missed a test since his debut in 2017. Tough for Bumrah to get the #1 spot because of this reason, otherwise what explains him sitting below Holder and Rabada !!!!

 

Players who miss a Test match for their country, for whatever reason, lose one per cent of their points.

So Ash must have lost some 40 points because of those 5 missed tests....otherwise he'd be much higher, he was sitting at around 820 after the Adelaide test which is higher than Holder's current rating (rank #3). 

 

This is what makes Smith's ascent to #1 this year so miraculous, guy missed one full year and on his comeback eclipsed Kohli after 7 innings .

Ratings don't lie, this is the greatest ever Indian team, at least in home conditions. Can't have it both ways, you can't claim bowlers are playing on helpful surfaces and then say the batsmen are scoring on flat pitches. Enjoy this glorious era !!!! 

 

@Ankit_sharma03 check these numbers. I am sure guys like Ishant, Umesh, Mayank, Rohit will set their personal best in the future. Then Pant, Kuldeep have enormous potential.

with Ponting vs Sachin - Sachin always had something substantial to argue against and claim Sachin was better etc. The way Smith is beating Kohli, its ridiculous there is no scope for argument.

the piece about Bumrah and Shami being better han Srinath and Zak was obvious. What is phenomenal is how good was Kapil then.

I am surprised that Shami isn't already over 800 rating... The only series he seems to struggle are those in England, otherwise I don't remember a bad series off the top of my head...

kapil was a phenom. he was terribly handled. in the current squad, he would probably be our 2nd best bowler (after boom boom) and a better batsman than some of our batters.
