Rohit in his first World tournament was man of the match in a must win game vs SA

In the low scoring final he scored 30(16) at the end

Sachin was man of the match in 2011 Semis, scored a 50 in the quarter finals, was m.o.m in 3 super pressure games vs Pak

In that case Pant will even score, ....

Hope he does. Also good thing for him in tests is Saha is on his last phase and luckily we are not confusing ourselves in that format with chops and changes.

That is one of the issues. If you recall Pant was not even in the WC squad but called in to replace Dhawan

Rahul the keeper solves a lot of issues with the current limited overs team.

Firstly, it inspires confidence in Rahul and hi career is not in the mercy of Dhawan's fitness/mood!

Secondly, he's a good keeper. Not of Saha's calibre but does a good job and is focused. Pant lately seemed distracted and made a lot of fumbles.

Finally, a higher calibre batsman/keeper plus an additional slot to play someone as the game demands.

It's weird to see Pant's keeping skills being questioned... He is more than decent as keeper and will only improve with time.. he did really well in England and Aus.. the only thing was he got fooled by Bumrah's angle a couple of times moving along with the ball and missing outside edges off those deliveries.. again there is a learning curve and he is well ahead on that...

5 penalty runs because the ball hit his helmet placed roughly in a straight line behind was just the tip of the iceberg. His keeping was never really any good, and he was replaced in tests when it got showed up once too often. Of course, in limited overs, it is often the one-eyed leading the blind when it comes to keeping anyway ...

being a makeshift keeper he may have off day's. I have seen him taking some really sharp catches and he does reads the pitch which was not the case with atleast Pant. Still tried stumping against williamson & last over catch I am sure Pant have messed up with that. When Pant was keeping he rarely had good days.

has tr practice hitting stumps, he stood too far away to bumrah and shami, can't avoid those byes

Even in thst stumping it looked like he had the ball in his left glove while breaking the stump with his right. I don't know whether its allowed.

But not being able to keep his gloves together does show a gap in technique. In some crucial moment it will backfire
