Afridi was an allrounder. Teams knew this guy could win the game with either bat or ball on his day. If he got going with the bat, teams knew they were in trouble. Where as Jadeja ... less said the better. Why is this phony arse even labeled as an allrounder. Puts actual allrounders like Stokes and Shakib to shame.

afritard had a bowling avg of 30.58 from jan 2000 to jan 2014 (14 yr span) across 280 ODIs (320 wkts). certainly bullied weak teams, but also had decent bowling records vs aus, SL, etc. point here is not to defend afridi, but to show that he did better than jaddu with the ball as well over a fairly long period. yes, he did do well against weaker teams, but jaddu hasn't really done even that.

This is the mistake everyone makes while judging afridi. He was a bowler who can bat a bit and not the other way round. His batting mostly flopped but on the rare occasion is worked, he could win Pakistan matches single-handedly.

Bowling wise he was an attacking leg spinner who could pick up wickets. Jaddu doesn't bother about wickets at all, he just tries to keep things tight. In the middle a wicket taking option would be valuable

afridi use to bowl 10-10 overs for his side.....on his days he was very good with balll . He has 9-5 wkt haul in ODI .

Afridi stopped working hard on his bowling and his bowling was kind of helping his case.

Afridi was a leg spinner whose batting skills were discovered by his team .

Jadeja has been good for India in recent times with the bat but his position in the batting order is wrong . He is not a big hitter and should not be playing at number 7. He needs someone at the other end who can hit the big shots.

Originally, afridi was picked as a bowler.

Let me say something positive about Jadeja for a change. He is a great utility cricketer. His bowling is generally very reliable and he can have match winning impact when there’s some assistance to him. In the field he’s electric and his catches (think back to a crucial catch in the world t20 2016 against Bangladesh) and Ability for runouts (numerous occasions, incl the one against shoaib Malik in the champions trophy 2017 and against sa in champions trophy 2013) has turned the tide in numerous matches. Arguably the greatest Indian fielder ever and the best playing right now. His batting although largely underwhelming has shone in pieces. Someone who rides on confidence, There have been a few heroic innings from Jadeja from hopeless performances (against New Zealand in 2014, against Afghanistan in the Asia cup 2018, against New Zealand in the World Cup semi 2019). His crown moment of course was his man of the tournament all round performance in the 2013 champions trophy where he helped India win one of its few limited trophies recently. Performances in the field and with the ball notwithstanding, his heroic innings against sa in he group stages and against England in a man of the match performance in the final were crucial in giving India the tournament.
Although doesn’t entirely address his limited overs batting, still wanted to mention that he has been the worlds number 1 test bowler, world number 1 odi bowler and the worlds number 1 test altounder (and is still currrntly in the top 10 all-rounders in both odis and tests)

Atleast he is scoring fifties  he is far better than some bits and pieces players who have played for India. When was the last time Pandya scored 50 in a win?

There is nothing wrong with Jadeja in odis, he is a bowler who will bowl his 10 overs on most days and will hold one end up and score at decent rate.He is far better than guys like Sundar or Krunal Pandya or any other bits and pieces spinner in T20s.

Pandya has 4-50s in his career in which 2 are wins , jadeja has only 1 out of 12 and he has played thrice the game.

Pandya already has a 50% win ratio where as jadeja 50s for win ratio is under 10%.

The last time pandya scored a 50 and India won was 2017, the last time jadeja scored a 50 and india won was 2013

Pandya may have not scored 50 but he has impactful 40+ scores in ODI in last few years so those 5-10 runs dont matter as long as his impact was there.

Now let me show pandya impact - Since 2019 he has played only 12 games and he has won 3 games with his impact . Also u can imagine he wont have gotten a chance to bat properly in all 12 games since he bats at 7 .

45 in 22 balls against NZ - India won

48 in 27 balls agianst aus- india won

46 in 38 balls against WI- india won

45 in 32 against eng- India lost (which cant be put on pandya at all)

Who cares about 50 when u score 40+ most days at 150+ s/r . Any team will take pandya 40+ scores over jadeja impact less 50s .

Jadeja should not bat any lower than 5. He has definitely improved as a batsman however doesn't have skill set to dominate attacks but overall offers a lot to the team. It's been so long and he is still being played as no.7 is just plain stupid.

Jadeja is fine at no7 in this lineup , he is not good enough to bat at no5.If they find good no6 and no7 then Jadeja can be very good no8 in both forms of white ball cricket.

Thats the problem now that any team will give player like rahil, manish, pant , iyer that slot since they are better batsman then jadeja.

At max as of now he can bat at 6 once pandya returns .

One solution is if pant gets in he can bat at 6 and jadeja at 5 but that wud mean one of iyer or rahul looses his spot

U wanna play him as bowler Even worse , ever since rules have been changed .

jadeja avg 46 with ball with s/r of 54.....means 1 wkt a game

Pandya has avg of 40 with ball and s/r of 43....

Which means pandya has more chance of playing as bowler then jadeja , :p: someone was comparing to pandya.

Never ever take both names in line in LOI cricket ....its chalk n cheese .

Jadeja is at best a utillity cricketer in ODI and Hardik an impact player.

Moral of story - Lets play 4 bowler in which one bowler has ability to take 1 wkt per game on avg for his batting which has no impact. That puts pressure on other bowlers to take 3 wkts every game which is not possible

These are the options for such role

  1. Pant- already TM making a mess of him, even though much suited to bat above
  2. Kishen- Can be considered but his keeping is not great
  3. SKY- can be tried in t20, ODI im not to convinced as he ll get more time .
  4. DK- in t20 still an option but has no other utility
  5. Rana- looks like he has made some changes in his game, lets see in IPL
  6. Abhishek Sharma- A very good option but i feel he ll be better in top order as i have seen him enjoy PP a lot . He is also elegant n plays ball late like rohit so i think he might be better in top order but that has a lot of competition now.
  7. Abdul samad- Lets look at him in IPL
  8. Axar patel- IPL wud give a better idea that has his batting improved that much to get him back in consideration
  9. Deepak hooda- struggling in domestic
  10. Sarfraz- In form lets see where he takes it
  11. Riyan parag- better suited for 4,5 but not a bad option for 6,7 to
  12. Anukul roy- hasnt had a good run in domestic recently
  13. Dube- needs to go back n work on many things
  14. Sundar- has a good batting potential but that shud be told that he needs to work on certain area which cud also mean concentrate on batting over bowling

This is where selectors role comes as they need to identify these player for such and be communicated that they are being look on so bat in domestic around those position n get use to the role. Also i shud be told to them there impact wud be noticed more then volume of runs as batting low does decrease ur volume of runs

Any other option ?

Jadeja is better all round player than each one of those. people want too much from those middle order slots without having proper talent and grooming of talent. Jadeja himself has been in and out his entire career even if he is around for a decade.

His main weakness is lack of power game but his overall strike rate of 85 is not pathetic.  He is economical with the ball and effective when the track favors him. Hes done well in NZ compared to Kulcha. Last match he bowled a superb spell , affected a run out and scored a 50 but we are mad he did not hit few more sixes to win the game. We may not have got to 200 if he was out.

Wicket taking is all gr8 but 2/60 or 3/70 is no good in an ODI.. the overall impact is important.. I will take 10 overs 1/35 or 40 as a good spell and not a 5th bowler spell. The fact that he can complete his overs more often than not, is good enough for him to walk in as a bowler.  Add in fielding and batting ability and hes good to be playing.

The chase is usually lost if your top 5 is bowled out without scoring half the runs. More often than not teams will lose, this problem is not specific to India. Our not so experienced middle order usually is required to bat in emergency or else just waiting for the top order to finish the 50 overs.

Pant is a Wicket keeper batsman and should play.. not sure why TM are messing with him. In this particular situation We should be having Pant instead of the stupid Kedar Yadav whos not even bowling.  He may have made the difference with Jadeja supporting.

Strike rate of 85 in this day and age in the death overs is pathetic. He has a S/R of 101 in 49 international T20s. Do you even understand modern cricket?

Well that depends on when and which batsmen you get the wickets. If you take 3/70 and most of them are top order batsmen, then that’s better than what jadeja does.

Many of them arent all roudner....most of them are batsman or batsman who can bowl.

Jadeja is a good player but only if used well.

When u bat at 6,7 it is pathetic

The same figures look diff with diff roles

If he plays as main bowler then lack of wkts is not good but if he plays as 5th 6th bowler then ill look at economy 1st.

This post is about finisher and he is not finishing games even when target is in reach

So who is better than him in odis? The guy who does not make 50 in two years is better?

His SR is pathetic in t20s agree but it hardly matters, he has batted 23 times in 11 years. As long as he is justfying his role as bowler, he is just fine.
