Sehwag did well on his first set of away tours to SA, Eng, NZ & Oz. People have such short memories, it's only after he got that triple & then double vs Pak did he go into Super Saiyan don't give a jack about "moving ball" mode that killed some of his brilliant stats especially in England & SA. Shaw hasn't shown anything of the sort yet & the worrying aspect is he hasn't changed much across 4 innings

I just do not like his exggarated back lift. We'll see.

I don't know if he can survive with that kind of back lift and technique IN SENA. I was so wanting to see Gill.It is a completely wrong decision in my view.

Gooch had a similar backlift. But he tries to play everything on the backfoot. He has stretch fully forward.

Funny how many here have even reached the conclusion that he is shyte or wont work in long conculsion.....just one inning has gone by. 

Even if he fails well its good he ll learn his problem areas n then only he ll make adjustment. Good players make adjusments over a time

 

Kohli failed miserably in his 1st ENG n WI tour 

Pujara in his 1st cycle of overseas was a failure everywhere - Sa, NZ,ENG,AUS,WI and he was suppose to be most technically sound. 

In the end technique is a lil overrated, what matters is if a player knows how to score coz everyone will have some weakness. 

 

Shaw is one of the best talents we have produced now its upto him how he crosses the next stage called adjustment.

I think Sehwag didn't do much in NZ - in first series there they played him at 6 in second match to protect him from new ball. But Sehwag despite less than perfect footwork had a tighter technique than Shaw. One thing I have noticed with Shaw is that earlier his back foot used to go just a bit towards square leg even when driving outsife off, so he would reach with his hands. He appears to have ironed out that awkward trigger movement. So gives me hope he can further improve. If he can learn to be more compact, take front foot more towards pitch of ball and rein in attacking instincts for first 1 hr unless ball is really short or really full, he can be a game changer even in SENA. Seems to have one thing in common with Sehwag - ability to forget the last ball and keep attacking the bowler.

I would not call Gooch a great player by any means.He also had lot of issues with moving deliveries. He made merry when English pitches were at their flattest. It took such a long time for Gooch to become a good player.

Shaw has played just one innings in overseas test till now

India got a strong foundation in this test match thanks to quick 50 by Prithvi. 
He should continue to do this more regularly and convert these into 150s like Sehwag of the past.

Prithvi is a much more accomplished and graceful batsman to watch. Sehwag was different. Prithvi had a point to prove today, hence the urgency in scoring. I do believe he will play at a lesser strike rate when situation is more conducive to him.
