I don't like this batsmen centric approach to the issue. If a bowler oversteps by an inch he is forced to bowl a freebie ball where the batsman can hit the ball like a rented mule without any fear of being dismissed but there is no penalty for batsmen stealing runs? Should the bowler focus on bowling or on the non striker? Like a no-ball, run stealing also needs to be called out by the umpire, with an automatic dismissal and a fine as penalty. Only then will this crap stop. Or, bowlers need to do mankading left and right.

Classic case of retirement turning sinner into Saint! As a coach Ponting may have done a great job but he is not at all the right person to talk about spirit of the game.

Yup. Maybe a wrong analogy but its like Shastri telling the guys to smash the hell out of the opposition (Ashwin was telling an anecdote about him in some interview) but in his playing career it was him who was taking the beating :whack2: His ODI batting was as if he was drinking before batting. With bewda can't rule out the case :beer-bottle:
