That particular Delhi wicket was on the flatter side and the straight boundaries were short , so not sure about that. England's batting too was stronger than the WI.

But still he's atleast a couple of tiers above Rahane. He has a great temperament too which post-2015 Rahane severely lacks. I'm just saying it's unfair to say Dhawan was the reason behind our losses in 2014 and 2016.

Didnt jaddu leak more runs btw....pandya eco was 10 and jaddu 12 So we do agree Rahane did his part? I know exactly why India lost something you will not comprehend. Edited September 7, 2020 by Khota

Dhawan had nothing todo with the loss. This forum is full of people who lack objectivity.

Oh yea he did his part , his innings was the diff as opp batsman made 50 in 25 balls he made 40 in 35....10 runs less in 10 more balls in a game which went till last overs ....so wastage of balls by rahane made all the diff Thats game done for u...

Your hate for certain players clouds your judgement. The game was lost by bowling not batting. 190+ is a very comfortable total to defend. Now you have three non specialist bowlers and only two specialist and you will lose the game most of the time. You need 5 proper strike bowlers, not two.

In 2016, we actually had a favourable draw in the SF. England at Delhi would have been as difficult as Windies at Wankhede if not tougher. You may have seen how they tore apart New Zealand, the team that beat us comprehensively. Would not have made much difference if we somehow finished no.1 in the GS. Agree Again I agree with you, but 99/100 times, Dhawan would not have down worse than Rahane. The latter had scores of 3(8) and 40(35) (on a 220 wicket) in those two big games. Dhawan would have either got out not wasting too many balls or scores at a brisker rate. Those decisions will always stay as a blot on MSD's captaincy credentials atleast for me. Even though i hate Rahane a lot and even if this post is irrelevant for this thread i will still say it was lost because of two ridiculous no balls from Ashwin and Pandya ,you cannot do this in SF,not once but twice, pathetic pathetic Yes that wicket was 210+ ,Rahane choked it big time thereby sucking life out of a charging Indian batting engine

There will be a fatwa out for you. You need to blame Dhawan and Rahane.

Pandya and Jadeja are part timers and Ashwin is useless. Bumrah was new and there you have the recipe for failure. Once again rahane was not the problem.

I think he is a middle order bat, we already have similar players like Pandey who is a notch above him and Iyer who is a couple of notches above him and Gill who i think will be at worst a 2nd tier ATG for us. I don’t rate him against short pitch bowling. In IPL once in a while he can play out the good ones and cash in against pie bowlers and nothing wrong with that, smart cricket is good but don’t think he has a slot right now in the main scheme of things. He will be found out. 1. Rohit 2. Rahul 3. Kohli (C) 4. Iyer 5. Rana 6. Pant (WK) 7. Pandya This is a great top 7 for T20s
Ankit_sharma03 Posted September 8, 2020 Author Posted September 8, 2020 marsh looks to have improved a lot, bowled really well in that ashes test ...looks to have power game Stan AF 1

Gollum Posted September 9, 2020 Posted September 9, 2020 (edited) Honestly when WI was in that kind of mood, focused/motivated and firing, Sammy at #8, Brathwaite at #9, Mumbai patta, small ground eliminating the need for 1s and 2s, heavy dew, anything less than 220 no team could have defended against them. Against a bowling side like England they would have chased even 250 in those conditions. Same ground in the group stage recall how they made mockery of a 185 target against Poms that too without trying hard and in total cruise mode, Gayle scored a 48 ball 100 with 11 6s. Again same ground, same competition Eng-RSA group stage Poms chased 230 against Steyn/Rabada/Tahir and Root scored a 30 ball 80 something. Only single digit IQ creatures will say we had enough in the SF. Rahane's 40(36) would be marked as a fixing attempt if we didn't know how useless he is in white ball cricket. And he was boasting in mid-innings interview about how 160 was enough on that track , Dhoni's brainfades in 2014 final and 2016 semi take a lot of gloss from his white ball captaincy reputation.
