Fact is that there are plenty who fall prey to the mindset that by attacking a bonafide legend with made-up statistics, they demonstrate their 'intellect' and willingness to not follow the herd, when the sad pathetic reality is that their pantomime of contrarianism says more about their own inadequacies than the subject at hand.

Like everyone else, SRT is a package deal. He exemplifies how being an amazingly great genius and being over-rated are not mutually exclusive.

Is he an ATG?  Absolutely yes.

Is he top 1-2 bat from India (along with SMG)?  No doubt.

Have Indian fans over-rated him as if he could do no wrong?  Definitely.

An over-rated ATG genius.

We all know what happened to the other teenager who was going to be messiah-lite at the same time.  Tons of ability, but couldn't handle the adulation, never overcame technical deficiencies, and faded away.   In some aspects, SRT's mental toughness is commendable, yet in others it is questionable.

yeah ...we have another super star here....supposed to be the greatest chaser of all time and even that of huge totals. .But come the knock out match of any  tournament of any significance, he gets reduced to not even a quarter of the batsman he is. Sachin faced far greater amount of pressure of expectations  when compared to Kohli, yet he performed far better in multi national tournaments.

Bilateral specialist Amla was reduced to peanuts when dealt with the pressure of being the senior batsman of a SAF team that has never won a world cup. Similarly Sanga  forgot to bat when  dealt with the pressure  of  world cup semifinal in 2015. Poor Joe root couldn't even hold the bat properly

in the 2019 world cup final.Imagine Sachin coping with the pressure of various sorts thru out his career....

Not sure if you're being sarcastic, thus an explanation :-) -

It's funny how we always associate "over-rated" with something bad.  It's not necessarily the case, right?  If you are the world #2, that's awesome!  But people may think you are #1, and that means you're over-rated, but you're still awesome.  Not your fault if people rate you higher than the awesomeness you already are!

Good to know that you carry a pressure gauge:

WT20 GOAT, 2014 SF/F, 2016 SF, did well in 2012 as well

No one rates Amla at that level. Overrated ODI batsman.

2015 SF?

2014 WT20 F MOM despite struggling, grit :hatsoff:

So even while you half-heartedly acknowledge him as an "ATG genius", you feel the need to throw in the word over-rated.  Why?  The justification is that some rando fans somewhere overrate him.

This is a result of 2 fanatical ends of the spectrum - the mania of the worshippers, which forces the fan who likes to think he's a "centrist", into putting fabricated asterisks on his greatness.  And at the other end, you've got the wild-eyed bashers, for whom poking holes, real or imaginary in Sachin's multi-decade presence - (2.5x that of a normal 'good' batsman) is a self-pleasuring obsession.

Because of the morons on either end of the spectrum, even those with no 'dog in the fight' feel the need to 'balance'.  Instead of just calling a stupid spade, what it is.

That is a lack of understanding of test cricket on your part. The post that you originally quoted speaks about entitlement including playing w/o the pressure of being dropped

these are all blind emotional attacks with no sense what so ever. But I agree that quality players face comparatively lesser pressure of getting dropped.

But extreme quality players faces  pressure of different types... the pressure of maintaining their reputations. That is what Sachin had to deal with thru out his career.

no man I agree with you ,  I suggested something similar on another thread.

Same as faced by other good players .... Apart from managing all kinds of "pressures", there are players who have had the pressure of captaincy too

Please don't talk sense. WK and Captaincy doesn't matter. Only Ailiaaaa who had 1 job to do matters. Wicket keeping is hell of a job especially in Tests. They can't turn off like a normal fielders even for a ball. To do that for 2 days in a row is something else thing. Non of the duds here played any cricket for Clubs to even know that.

He won a tournament against mighty SA in the 90s with his bowling and not to forget that while Laxman and Dravid’s innings saved the match for india from a humiliating defeat it was Sachin the magician who turned the test on its head with his magical and timely wickets with his underrated leg spin.

Here is a guy who didn’t need intangible crap like advice to spinners and other batsmen to be relevant.

Buddy, just like many Pakistanis rely on taqiah, many Indians rely on excuses. When it comes to Sachin/Kapil fans, whose records are less than the hype created, they have performed against all odds, are the only ones to face all kinds of pressure, have performed w/o any support (when Sachin played with the strongest batting line up in the 2000s), and so on.

Even when they do comparisons, it is like Sachin/Kapil faced this as if the guy he is being compared to was just walking in the park. It is almost like these guys are under some kind of obligation (or pressure in their terms) to portray Sachin as some kind of the greatest. They are controlled by an invisible hand.

Let VVS,Bhajji and Dravid take all the credit and remained in the shadows  when it was those 3 wickets that won the Kolkata test

Won Hero cup bowling final over

Highest scorer in multiple world cups

Not even going to mention the self explanatory records :hail:

Sachin fans are true believers in Sanatana Dharma we expand our consciousness to look beyond some mere stats and attribute everything to a DB like other Abrahamic religions do.

Sachin = God :rock:

Absolute freaking clowns. That's all I can say about these Sachin fans. They are so sensitive and easy to rattle. There is a reason I pick on Ailiaaa and no one else here.

Good, we need a poster boy for anti-Sachin. You claiming to be the poster boy is kind of a compliment for Sachin fans :phehe:

I doubt they wud have let him played 200 test had he played for Aus

He would have played 250 tests. Aussies and poms play 10 tests per year on avg. SRT played for 24 years, 90s got him some 65 tests at his peak.

Do you think he would have debuted at 16? What if he debuted at 25?

If one condition changes, many others change too :winky:

It's common for great batsmen to debut at age of 21-22 even in Aus and Eng. Notable names who made debut at 25+ are Strauss, Gilchrist, KP, Vaughan, Warner, Mark Waugh and some more.

SRT was ranked 1 test batsman in 2011 at age of 38.

17 years window would still give him 170-180 tests, that too assuming that he retired at that age where he was best. Can't recall any batsman who retired while being ranked 1 test bat.

More time to learn at domestic would have probably helped him playing bigger innings (200-300) more often.

More matches at best age (he averaged 59.41 in 150+ matches during that age while playing for India). Would have probably ended with 170-180 matches with 60+ average?

Since Aussies and poms don't dump their cricketers at peak, additional 2 years would have allowed go past 200 tests easily.

Playing for India was beneficial in case of early debut, but restricted in other ways.
