I am no Rohit fan but when you can hit 150+ scores for fun you get some leeway with those starts. I mean what’s more important from Rohit a 50(25) or 36(16) or a 175(135) ?

Given our middle Order it’s commendable that he curbs his natural instinct to start well.

I would give Tamim the same benefit of doubt actually even though he can no where come close to what Rohit can do.

Converse also true baba...Tamim scored 2 100s in Eng incl one at Lord's...against that brilliant 2010 English side.

Know I am digressing, different format, but quite bored so.....random post.

@zen - time to open a new thread Rohit powerplay batting skills :aha:

Will be interesting to see in games where Rohit and Kohli were both out early with a decent strike rate how much the remaining “cameo” Specialists could muster.

Means next semi or final

Last i remember he played a gritty knock on one leg against NZ and a stellar knock against pak. Atleast didnt failed outrightly

So what he will be 22(30) by the end of powerplay? Is that really a big deal in an odi?

As long as he is in form it isnt much but once it declines it will like was in case or dhoni taking it deep. Also when u look at in terms of over all team problem it only adds as a team which is filled with slow starters a quick start is the need of hour specially when targets have reached 350 now. Also now when u have iyer n rahul set , this approach needs to get better . 22 in 30 can become 29 in 30 atleast. These small diff is what changes the game. Also see the other players team clearly it is an issue covered by his rich vein of form. Also he wont score every day and the day he doesnt this doesnt help.

Sorry 73 in PP in modern cricket is unacceptable , already we have jadeja at 6,7 who bats at 82 s.r in those position. Iyer starts slow, now u see if everyone starts to do it how many balls we loose in a 300 over game

:hysterical: so let’s make fun of a guy who just recently scored 5 wc 100’s including in the high pressure game vs Pak which we won by the way and all those other match winning performances I keep having to list and scored 3 200’s and the most 150+ scores in history but let’s bring up 2 knocks out of a 100 chances of another guy from a dead game when he was just swinging and another game that no one remembers :hatsoff:This is even something I haven’t done for my fav players

How am i making fun read above

I clearly mentioned it doesnt hurt until he is in form n scores runs but on days he doesnt it back fires

Also overall so many batsman wasting balls isnt helping this team which gets hidden behind individual numbers.

As great an odi player he is this area with modern day totals needs to get better and now fickle middle order is not even an excuse

Rohit Sharma In The 10 Innings When He Has Scored ODI Hundreds In 1st Inngs*

Score Range Runs BF SR BpB BpS
<=50 505 652 77.45 13 65.2

Overall 1616 1384 116.76 6.8 22.0

^ the above analysis is based on the 100s he scored.

Key Takeaways

1. Scores at a SR of 80 or less for his first 50 runs. At that SR, a team would score 240 runs

2. Only picks up once he crosses 50

3. Does justice to his "talent" once he crosses 100

Putting 2 & 2 together

1. In 69% of the games, he scores less than 50. Which means that in those games his SR would be 80 or less

2. In 20% of the games, his SR is 100 or more. This is 1/5 games

3. In 11% of the games, his SR is phenomenal :hatsoff:  .... But it is 1 in 9 games

I would have to dig for that but in general v major teams for his first 20 runs, his SR is 96:

Records type batting analysis [change type]

Opposition team Australia  or England  or New Zealand  or Pakistan  or South Africa  or Sri Lanka  or West Indies
Runs scored less than or equal to 20

filtered 2007-2020 54 46 4 306 17 7.28 320 95.62 0 0 5 34 10

B/w 21 & 40, his SR is 123:

Records type batting analysis [change type]

filtered 2007-2019 16 16 1 429 38 28.60 349 122.92 0 0 0 37 16

For 0-40, his SR is

Records type batting analysis [change type]
View career summary [change view]
Opposition team Australia  or England  or New Zealand  or Pakistan  or South Africa  or Sri Lanka  or West Indies
Runs scored less than or equal to 40

filtered 2007-2020 70 62 5 735 38 12.89 669 109.86 0 0 5 71 26

In 62% of innings, he avgs only 13 w/ a SR of 110

Only once he goes past 40, his SR is competitive:

Records type batting analysis [change type]
View career summary [change view]
Opposition team Australia  or England  or New Zealand  or Pakistan  or South Africa  or Sri Lanka  or West Indies
Runs scored greater than or equal to 41

filtered 2007-2020 20 20 7 1387 118 106.69 864 160.53 4 14 0 118 73

But that only happens in 1 out of 5 games :((
