When shami n bhuvi came they had their set of issues but they evolved..same with batsman like rohit kohli n dhawan. U think our new set of batsman like gill n co wwud be perfect and wont have their issues. This what good teams do they find right talent invest in them and when they hit their peak they give return on investment. U think mavi, tyagi or nagarkotti wont have issues....everyone will have some , some will have some will have huge issues. It all depends how they evolve. He has so many positives about him that needs to be seen also he brings something different to this attack which is very important. Also he is currently the best in next line of bowlers. Unless 2-3 prove themsleves better by then stick with him and notice the improvements. From the day he came in i saw his yorkers have improved a lot, he can bat a bit as well very useful in our tail. He has been suffering from back spazm , back is very essential for a quick bowler so i dnt wanna judge him on this series. At 28 years of age, we are not grooming an up and coming youngster though. I know he is sort of a late bloomer, but he has had enough domestic experience already. TBF he looked a much better bowler in the domestics, bowling in good areas and troubling batters. Now he is just trying to bowl fast and is messing up. Some of the dross he has served up is inexcusable for an international cricketer in a top team. That over to Maxwell the other day was embarrassing. He has done the same things in IPL too..to Tewatia and Stoinis in some of the matches. People have been lambasting Khaleel for much less..why the double standards? Prasidh Krishna is a much better prospect in my eyes if we are grooming someone for the future or Tyagi for that matter. Even then, Deepak Chahar should be getting the games over him, looks like a wickettaker with the new ball and good variety in the death overs. Id still back Saini for red ball though, since he hasnt had a chance there.
RAZPOR Posted December 1, 2020 Posted December 1, 2020 Most of the new found armchair critics here have hardly seen much of saini from the looks of it Watching a bit of IPL tamasha and few highlights of LOIs and acting like next harsha bhogle, ready to pass judgements.Saini has done enough in domestics to warrant a long run,if anything selectors have wasted his best form toiling in raanjis when he should have been playing internationals. Mosher, express bowling, nevada and 1 other 4

Grooming is nothing to do with age, when u go to next level u have to evolve urself to it be it at 20, 28 or 35 No matter how much u play domestic ull have to evolve urself at international He is prep enough, he needs to add more skill which everyone had to on international level be it zak, shami , bhuvi or even bumrah 1 hour ago, Vickydev said: Some of the dross he has served up is inexcusable for an international cricketer in a top team. You dont groom a 40 something Pravin Tambe over a young Bishnoi now do you? You look for investing in a guy to reap the rewards later as they mature. The names you listed like Zak, Bhuvi, Shami, Bumrah all made their starts at quite a young age ...atleast 5-6 years over Saini. And yet they looked much more of a match winner than Saini has looked. It will be unfair to compare their careers with his right now. Due to selectors lack of foresight he has lost quite a few years. And now with opportunities fewer as we have Bumrah and Shami as top dogs who play almost all big games, we musn't repeat the same mistakes. If there is someone with similar skills sets but much younger rather give them the opportunity. They might make the same mistakes but then when they hit their peak years you have an experienced head. Not someone already in their peak years trying to work things out while by the time they are ready we have a year or two max to reap the rewards. And the cycle repeats with the next set of players.. Indwin 1

Adamant Posted December 1, 2020 Posted December 1, 2020 Has done nothing of note, won't be a surprise if he is dropped for next game But according to me he should be given more chances because atleast he bowls 140+ and we don't have many options apart from Siraj who is a liability in limited overs.
Sean Bradley Posted December 1, 2020 Posted December 1, 2020 It's good that Saini has fans, to be honest, even in IPL he wasn't really running through sides, he has pace, but so did Varun Aaron, I think he has a very small shelf life and doesn't seem to be a lambi race ka
Straight Drive Posted December 1, 2020 Posted December 1, 2020 Actually when you look to build a team for a style or environment of game which has drastically changed due to rule changes and other factors, it is wise to pick players who are young and not too much into 20's. It helps that they have many years left and hence return over investment can happen. When you pick player at 28, especially a fast bowler, the career when he peaks is not too much. But now that Saini has been selected , he should be getting enough matches. Player of young age like Tyagi should be developed. Not being specific, but the age has to be a factor to get more after investing few years to develop players.

I think 18 to 20 is the good time to develop players for international level. Suppose a player aged 20 is picked, he gets 24 ODI in continuity, which India plays in 2 years time. So by 22 he has got a nice exposure of highest level coaching, the practice sessions against and with best, real match experience against best. If he does well in 2 years time then nothing like it. Continue with him by developing him further to make a core member of team by he is 25. Now by 22 if he does not does well even with continuity of 2 yeara, his weakness is known to him. Can take inputs on improvement plan and play 3 years of domestic and A tours so by 25 he has erased technical and temperamental flaws to a large extent. If he makes a good comeback debut as better player at 25, there are many years left to get returns on his development. Shaw and Gill have got debut at good age. Problem is continuity. Offcourse Shaw was injured which did not help his cause. There is no performance to analyse over so few matches. They will go back to domestic and play the way they are. Two years at international cricket will expose the flaws and help to improve better. That stage is getting delayed for them due to non continuity. Edited December 1, 2020 by Straight Drive RAZPOR 1
maniac Posted December 1, 2020 Author Posted December 1, 2020 Can’t judge a bowler on results on these pattas. Starc looked as bad as Khaleel on these pitches. However Saini seems to be in his prime, fit, has a great attitude and definitely has the zip in his bowling. In a test scenario he can get the consistency and be lethal.

In LOIs, a bowler with pace can develop other skills over a period of time to become a complete package but gaining pace is tough. Also, Saini has shown enough skills in domestic cricket, for the A side. Has had a great start in T20Is. Desrves a proper run. Not fair to write him off after few tough ODIs, that too when he may have played last two ODIs despite not being fully fit due to back spasms (not an excuse for his poor performance though)

Was never going to be a Test bowler going by his poor FC stats but Dhoni heated pacers and then Bumrah burst onto the scene. Injuries didn't help him either. In Saini's case, his stronger suit is the longer format. He is built like a bull and has bowled 140-145 regularly on dead Ranji pitches in his 3rd 4th spells (on faulty speed guns) and extracted seam movement.
