There is *no one* in Indian cricket with Pandya's ball striking ability. I cant believe his place is being questioned. There is a shortage of power hitters in Indian LOI sides as it is , let alone all rounder.

fair enough but u dnt get such players easily, NZ doesnt give a Fck about such things . I dont think none among chris harris, neesham, cdgh wud get in with one skill but at the end a captain has to have resources which is why every captain goes for them be it international or league cricket. 

At the end team balance wont wait for someone like kallis to get born in system, it has to run day in day out

He won't do worse that's for sure & a leggi to boot as well.  His hitting is decent enough from what we saw in IPl.  He hasn't been picked on A tours as Gowtham & Krunal are usually picked but now he may get chances in A tours ahead of these guys. 

I think he can turn out to be better in T20s not sure about ODIs.

Useless Manju making useless statements again. Actually, ODIs require only Jadeja, Pandya kind of players. Having 3 specialist batsmen and 3 specialist bowlers is enough. Fill the team with all-rounders who can play impactful innings with the bat and bowl 4-5 overs each game. Look at Australia - Warner, Finch, Smith and Labu are the only specialist batsmen. The rest all can contribute with the ball - In fact Smith, Labu are good enough to bowl 8 overs between them but they don't need to. Stoinis, Henriques, Maxwell, Cummins are the players who provide x-factor to their team.

India needs to field Jadeja, Tewatia, Riyan Parag, Pandya in the XI. 4 guys who can make 100 runs and bowl 25 overs between them. What else does a team need?

the reason our top 3 has been batting with the pace they do coz they knw they have pandya there, which btw is a horrible though process coz they end up leaving a mountain for him

In a small sample of List A and T20s, he has done well.

 

In any case domestic stats are irrelevant for T20Is. IPL is the most competitive T20 leage and of higher intensity and competiton level than any domestic tournament. For T20Is, there is nothing wrong in picking players based on standout IPL performances, esp to fill holes in the national side. Yes there is a gap between Int'l cricket and IPL, but so is the case with any other domestic series.

Or a captain has to know how best to manage with the available resources and make the most out of them. How many chances has Kohli given Pandya to bat at the top, even in dead rubbers or vs SL, WI type easier opposition? From 2015-16 onwards, it has all been about the big 3 making tons of runs (and go missing during crunch time).

83 WC team bar Srikkanth,Kapil,Sandeep Patil and Gavaskar, Amarnath (in tests) would be the only guys who would be playing modern international cricket in 2020. I will add Shastri and Vengsarkar in tests as well.

 

All these guys were proper bats or bowlers.

 

No way Sandhu,Binny sr,Azad,Yashpal Sharma,Madan Lal  would make it to any side now.
