Tyagi to me has a very big upside.If he works hard and does not get satisfied will become a force for India.India has done the right thing by giving him experience of playing on these wickets.

ODI performance should not matter much for test match selection. Not to forget, he was played despite a back spasm.

 

If FC stats were the basis for selection in test matches, a dozen seamers would have been selected ahead of Bumrah and Shami.

 

The main thing to see is ... which bowler has a better chance of maintaining pressure from his end, as the 3rd pacer in tests in Australia. If it is Saini then it should be Saini ... If it is Siraj then it should be Siraj.

 

That should be the sole criteria for selection.

Looks like Umesh is gonaa be the 3rd one whether we like it or not.  Kohli trusts seniors more as we know.  Unless in the 2nd warm up India decides to rest either of Bumrah & Shami...  & Siraj/Saini pick wickets.

Saini has not looked impressive in any matches, I have seen him. I would take Siraj over Saini but he is bowling in low 120s that is not going to get him any wickets.Both of them will never be great bowlers even by Indian standards IMO.

Siraj does not bowl low 120s.

 

Siraj is bowling 130 k to 143 k these days. He may average around 135 k in tests.

 

His problem is that he has a tendency of just floating the ball up in the 2nd half of the day. Does not hit the deck hard enough after he has bowled 10+ overs.

 

This can be a problem if the ball does not swing much.

He just needs to go back to how he was running in U19 WC. He is running with longer strides now.

Lee is Tyagi’s fav player/bowler so Lee did an analysis on Tyagi’s bowling action during IPL including how Tyagi can improve his pace

He was repeatedly messing up his run up today ... stopping mid way and going back. Once threw down the ball in disgust. This is sign of a major work in progress kid. 

 

He needs good guidance and his transformation maybe spectacular.

 

I don't know how such rudimentary issues are allowed to creep in at this level.

He was already bowling 145 in IPL. Right now my main concern isn't pace but control. Pace he already has, just improve his rhythm and balance. He worked with such a good coach in Steffen Jones but it actually proved counterproductive for him.

This wasn't the case in u19 WC. He was running in quite well then.

Lee’s analysis was good covering various aspects (including “speed”) .... Since Tyagi wants to bowl like Lee, he could be more open to Lee’s advise .... Lee may have sent that analysis video to Tyagi during IPL

I would want someone from Lee or Gillespie to be India's pace bowling coach,Lee is a celebrity here and Gillespie too is good,hope we get away with gendaswamy Arun and appoint one of them

Arun to me has transformed Indian pace bowling by using his smarts, he to me the most underrated guy in fast bowling renaissance in Indian cricket. Nobody has lost pace under him and everyone has shown tremendous impovement under his coaching.Each bowler is bowling to their strengths.

 

Will Jason Gillespsie a good addition to coaching staff ,he sure will but I would make him bowling coach for NCA for now and ask him to train upcoming fast bowlers. he can become head coach after Shastri leaves.
