Expectations/Predictions for Indian cricket in 2021

We're just a few hours away from leaving 2020 for good and step into an year that has a lot in store for Indian cricket. An year in which a lot can be achieved if Men in Blue play to the best of their potential. An year that'll give us a chance to end our ICC trophy drought not once but twice.

We've already discussed the complete schedule in 2021 in the below thread

There's going to be a lot of cricket to be played in the next 12 months. Right from the moment we step onto the field at the SCG......and to the moment we leave South Africa later in the year, there's a lot at stake inbetween. I'm leaving out the relatively useless bilateral Odis and T20s. What are your predictions for these marquee series' and what should be our minimum expectation from the Indian team? Will we carry our momentum from the MCG to do something spectacular in the ongoing series? Will we end our trophy drought? Will we do better than just compete in Eng and RSA this time around?

  • 2 remaining Tests against Australia
  • 4 Tests at home against England
  • Asia Cup T20
  • World Test Championship Final (if we qualify.. fingers crossed )
  • 5 Tests in England
  • T20 World Cup on home soil
  • 2 Tests at home against New Zealand
  • 3 Tests in South Africa

Please fire away.

We are smashing englund 4 0

Asia cup T20? Should win I suppose

We will destroy kiwis. Revenge time. 2 0

Fingers crossed we qualify.

Should win 2-1 in South Africa this time

India wins T20 World cup for sure.

All depends on whether BCCI sacks Kohli from captaincy or if Kohli himself self reflects and decides to quit as captain. If he is in charge, the rift between him vs Rohit in LOIs and the chasm between him vs Rahane, ChePu and Rohit will only grow further and damage our cricket.

On WTC finals and T20 WCs, we are not winning those for sure under Kohli. He will mess up team selection for both like he did for 2019 WC.

IF Rohit leads us in T20 WC, we have better chances to win it. Likewise, if Rahane is Test captain, better chances to win WTC.

For the Asia Cup, best will be to rest both Rohit and Kohli (and Dhawan, Bumrah, Shami as well). Let KL or Iyer be the captain, we will win that even with our A team.

Should continue to win Test series at home irrespective of the captain, hopefully Kuldeep will get to play some of those tests after WTC.

One wish I have is for Shaw to sort out his technique and fitness, score runs for A team, get a county stint if possible and be back in the national side towards the end of the year.

You're clearly extrapolating bhai.

P.s - Kohli is going nowhere as a captain whether we like it or not.

I am sensing a draw 2-2 in Australia

England will be smashed 3-0 (1 draw due to a Stokes blockathon)

WTC final -  We win at lords somehow..  Epic Test.  Shastri is one step closer to stay on as Coach till 2023 & so does lolli.

Asia Cup T20 - Ishan Kishan to smash poyzzz in the final..  Rohit is leading the side to glory yet again.  Test team is in England already

Eng Test series..  3--2 to England..  Jimmy retires on a high.  Pujara fails & gets dropped in 3rd game.  Lack of a swing bowler hurts India.  Siraj plays the 5th game & takes a 5fer & Poms collapsed.

T20 WC - Sad Semi final exit at home utter humiliation..  Lolli sacked as T20 skipper & Shastri still manages to hold on.  Ishan Kishan was dropped & Dhawan was picked throughout the tournament & an ultra slow inn in Semi costed us.

Kiwis smashed at home 2-0

India wins Boxing day Test in SAF..  Loses the new Year's test  & Script history at Wanderers in the 3rd thanks to a Shubhman Gill classic Ton.  2-1 to India.

Lol dropping Ishan for Dhawan is so India in T20.

Expect lots of stupidity in ICC events under this dumb TM. 2019 WC was lost because of their stupidity, not because of luck, conditions, Dhawan injury or opponent. They had at least 2 years to fix that MO, yet DK played at #4 :facepalm:and Pant played his first match of that tournament in SF!!!!

2014 and 2016 WT20s we had Rahane opening in KOs. Fully expect Dhawan to play ahead of Rahul this time.

Got to love those poltiical csk connections and other affiliates. Too much corruption in our Indian selection system. It's sad. We would have easily won the WC without Dhawan if we just picked our best players. Jeez Dhoni and co are real assholes for betraying us.

the wins down under and in Eng will get all the attention. but it's worth acknowledging these were 'great' because of the spectacular fight backs. when india's wins start to get boring that's when you know the we've has made it. Centurion was the most 'boring' of all.
