Majestic Posted January 30, 2021 Posted January 30, 2021 (edited) Manish Pandey is 32 and he has not cemented his spot in any format yet. His chances of comeback in tests is anyways NULL. Based on Pant's performance in Australia series, it is inevitable that he can't be ignored any longer for the other two formats. There is Suryakumar Yadav waiting for a place in Indian side from a long time now. There is Shreyas Iyer who only recently had his first bad ODI series and he is just 25, so you won't want to break a youngster confidence based on one failure. Gill can't be ignored either. Then there are hacks like Samson and Kishan who can be vital short term investments for 20-20 tamasha as well if going through a purple patch. As all these names seems to be higher in reckoning and can be longer and better investment for India, can this be assumed that the end is nigh for Manish Pandey and we might not see him in any format any longer. Ankit_sharma03 Posted January 30, 2021 Posted January 30, 2021 (edited) Pandey and Iyer are both good players but not X factor players- gill, pant , rahul all are qualitatively better batsman. Wont say their career is over , kohli likes to play safe in LOI and they are safe players atleast seems to be safe . Both their games have a major concern area and then the limitation to cover it. Serpico Posted January 30, 2021 Posted January 30, 2021 His best format is ODI.. with the super tight schedule we got this year, there will always be injury issues, all format players wanting rest etc. He might get some chances here and there. In 2023, who knows what happens. Nobody expected DK and 3d shankar in 2019 wc. In T20Is, it's up to him in the upcoming IPL. If he has a monster season with 500+ runs he can comeback into the team but anything less, it's over for him

ShoonyaSifar Posted January 30, 2021 Posted January 30, 2021 Never say never asking as Kohli is captain. He could even be the number 4 in T20 WC.
Majestic Posted January 30, 2021 Author Posted January 30, 2021 There can't be plenty of names for no.4 position in the T20 squad vs England. I have a feeling Manish Pandey will be dropped this time. One of SKY or Pant or maybe both will be given chance and Iyer will retain his spot too, that 110 m six under pressure situation has saved his place IMO.
Prabhdeep Singh Posted January 30, 2021 Posted January 30, 2021 I am not sure why India never tried him in Test Cricket. Good first class record, no issue against short ball. nevada 1

To be honest technique a bit overated you are assuming he will fail based on T20/ODI observations rather than assuming he will succeed based on first class average of 51 with 19 hundreds. I would not class S Smith or Virender Sehwag having great technique but they have succeeded in Test Cricket in their on way.

No im not assuming on t20 and ODI, he also played for India-A red ball so i have seen him there Quote I would not class S Smith or Virender Sehwag having great technique but they have succeeded in Test Cricket in their on way. good players of spin one was destructive and ur talking of 2 special players....pandey is clearly not. he has neither the grit of smith or destruction of sehwag the sehwag ur talking was also hampered in his late stages by the angle at which his bat came down, same problem manish has Edited January 30, 2021 by Ankit_sharma03

Never stated he was a great just talking about opportunities be given for Test Cricket when others have been tried like Vihari, K Nair.

So has he piled on runs in india a white ball, what i meant was when he played for india-a these problems were evident in him and even iyer which is why they didnt go ahead as test prospect and new guys were looked. 18 minutes ago, Prabhdeep Singh said: Never stated he was a great just talking about opportunities be given for Test Cricket when others have been tried like Vihari, K Nair. Vihari n nair has far better techniques . U cat give opp to everyone
The Realist Posted January 30, 2021 Posted January 30, 2021 Ugly player with poor technique and limited skillset in his 30s. Very little upside here.
bowl_out Posted January 31, 2021 Posted January 31, 2021 He will still fancy his chances in ODIs, but that's about it.. He should grab all the chances he gets else will lose his spot quickly.. Gill and Pant are the future
Majestic Posted January 31, 2021 Author Posted January 31, 2021 My ODI batting will be:- Rohit Gill( Dhawan as backup) Kohli KL Pant( Iyer as backup in M.O) Pandya Jadeja This should be top 7 with safer bets like Dhawan and Iyer as backups. Jadeja's backup can be Sundar although I am not too sure about his bowling in ODIs and late hitting also. TM will probably give it to Sundar as he has been tried in other two formats already.

I really hope this TM doesnt make mistake of jaddu at 7, its clear he needs time. 7 is the worst position for him. Also high time we realise the left right left right value. Current team has 2 one comes at open other at 7 so opposition can bowl continously to right handers in middle unless dhawan is set. This is what i wannq try. Pant Rohit Kohli Jadeja Rahul Pandya Sundar/tewatia Jaddu at 4 will help opp leg spinner in check as leggies have been troubling rahul n kohli off lately . This right left combo messes bowlers and they will end up giving more % of loose balls which is what england thrive on due to stokes , malan, moeen ali , morgan, now curran to and even MI with de kock, kishen, krunal. This right left will make bowler make errors and it ll create more loose balls hence better RR coffee_rules 1

Don't go with overall stats at no.7 as in past, he wasn't a good enough batsman for that position. He has become a good batsman post Manjarekar fiasco and his hitting ability has improved too. With Pant and Pandya at 5 & 6, I don't think there is much to worry about hitting ability. Jadeja can still be lethal if we are five down and need 90 runs off 80 balls. He is a clutch player. I feel the changes you are suggesting is a bit too much and doubt Indian management would make that many. Also, KL Rahul is naturally an opener. No.5 was always a temporary fix for him. That record at no.5 would have been even better had he opened the batting because he is going through a purple patch. As far as left handers are concerned, it won't be easy to drop Dhawan also in his best format which is ODIs. In T20s, he can and should be dropped because his career record isn't good in that format. But hard to drop him in ODIs.

KL has been outstanding at 5, ppl forget he has a 100 at 4 in a t20 game and runs at 4 in IPL also HE can open but he bats like rahane. He is perfect in middle
nevada Posted January 31, 2021 Posted January 31, 2021 Pandey is a gun fielder, a decent but not great ODI option. He is a peripheral player who will get picked time to time due to above mentioned factors. He never had a career which actually took off, so it isn't even worthwhile discussing the end of it.
