Meh ... partly.  I get what he is saying.  His criticism of modern eco-activists' hypocrisy is spot-on.  But what he should be attacking is their misguided vision of low-yield romantic agriculture.  Not the vision and achievement of the green revolution.  

 

So, while the overall gist is okay, I take huge issue with his unbridled criticism of the green revolution.  Without synthetic* fertilizers or high-yielding, dwarf hybrids, there is absolutely no way India could've achieved self-sufficiency in grain production.  That it led to over-use of fertilizer is not a consequence of the green revolution - it is a consequence of greed (oh, and btw, on a per nitrogen unit basis, organic fertilizer would be much worse than synthetic fertilizer.  But I digress).  It is very much possible to do sustainable agriculture with synthetic fertilizer and without crop-burning.  Associating these bad practices with high-yield agriculture is lazy and AIM is just like any other non-expert speaking out of his backside when it comes to this issue.  Without the GR, AIM is unlikely to exist to write this article.

*A pedantic rant:  The use of chemical fertilizer?  Everything is a fooking chemical.  Organic cattle crap is full of chemicals.  You are full of chemicals.  What he means is synthetic fertilizers, which, when used properly, are much better for agriculture and the environment than non-synthetics.
