First you let the batsmen settle in by giving the fast bowlers half the overs, with the majority going to Ishant, who has still not found his line and length (when his incutter line is good it’s too high), then you destroy Siraj’s momentum, who is bowling well, by getting into a stupid verbal spat, then you don’t bowl Ashwin until after the 18th over, well after the batsmen are settled, and then when you do bowl Ashwin, it’s not as a tandem with Axar, despite the fact that their wildly different bowling styles mean they can really confuse the batsmen especially when bowling together. Just amazing captaincy. If it wasn’t for the fact that this is one of the most talented collection of players India has ever seen, we would be looking disastrous.
