4th test Ahmedabad, Mar 4-8 India vs England , WTC Final KO for India Match thread

Recommended Posts

If India loses , we are out of WTC.

8.15am Sure, the spotlight will be on the Motera pitch once again, but you just can't take the bigger picture out of the equation: the World Test Championship (WTC) final. Sri Lanka will play a two-Test series against West Indies in the Caribbean later this month, but this is the last stop for both India and England in this WTC cycle. The ask for Virat Kohli's men is simple: avoid defeat in this Test and join Kane Williamson's New Zealand in the final.

If England spoil India's party and level the series, then Australia will sneak in to make it a Trans-Tasman final. Did you ever imagine the prospect of Australia supporting England? Right then, there's everything to play for in Ahmedabad.

England: Dom Sibley, Zak Crawley, Jonny Bairstow, Joe Root (capt), Ben Stokes, Ollie Pope, Ben Foakes (wk), Dan Lawrence, Dom Bess, Jack Leach, Jimmy Anderson

India: Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Cheteshwar Pujara, Virat Kohli (capt), Ajinkya Rahane, Rishabh Pant (wk), Washington Sundar, Axar Patel, R Ashwin, Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Siraj

Root: We want to make use of the first innings and make the most of it. It will start spinning at some point. We've had ups and downs and there has been progression and improvement - and that's all we ask of this side. Whenever you have a tough couple of games, you need to be honest and open and you have to have trust in your ability. Lawrence and Bess come in for Broad and Archer

Kohli: Quite a no-brainer, we would have batted first as well. Looks a good wicket to bat first. We have a great camaraderie and atmosphere and it's been a great bunch of guys who have well-supported me. We have to be at our best and England have put us under pressure in the past and this series as well. Just one change: Bumrah has gone home, and Siraj replaces him.
