England Test team appreciation thread

This is just an appreciation of this English test side, they have stretched India in every test match & have not abdicate the intensity in any session of series. Last year, Indian team stream rolled SA & Bangladesh without breaking sweat. Indian were not tested at all.

But this England team has shown resilience, skills as well as tactics. Their performances are even more praiseworthy for the fact none of their players have moaned about the pitch or conditions. 

Whatever the outcome of the series, one thing is for sure England is a top test team & should be proud of their performances in SL & India.

For Eng it would be as it rotated its players (no Buttler, no Ali), Archer not available, played on tough pitches, and so on

They won the fricking toss here, that's a major advantage. Chasing will be mighty difficult & England avoided that.

Secondly, India were missing so many key players including majority of bowling reasources. 

Thirdly, chasing down a target of 300 plus on day 5.

That's debatable, you also have to remember Eng won 12 out of 14 tosses across 3 series. Whilst toss is always not a decider but in cricket, unlike other sports, has a much higher impact - especially in tests!

I am talking in terms of comeback under difficult circumstances if it happens ... the spirit ... toss won or loss, experienced Ind should be able to handle such a team ... of course, no two tests are unlikely to play out in the same fashion ... but Eng needs to win first

Don’t forget our bowling was basically full of noobs. Not even a total of 10 test matches they played.

Toss was major factor here, the team England played was basically picked for bowling second. Had they bowled first it would have been a major handicap

What I'm basically saying is that cricket is inherently biased, the conditions can change drastically between 1-4 innings. This never happens in other sports & almost all games are played on a much much more even keel. This is why toss can be such a big factor in cricket - of course how you make use of it is also crucial.

The least we can do is stop calling Anderson Clouderson from now on. Yes I know McGrath and Dale Steyns numbers are better here but Anderson is a fine fine bowler.

Eng got bowled out for 200 (so handed adv away in a way) and Ind, playing in home conditions and therefore with a lower order that can contribute, had (or has as it is still batting) the opportunity to bat Eng out in the 2nd innings

No comparison really. Gabba was a fortress for 32 years, fortress of the greatest cricket nation ever. Last team to beat them there was ATG WI, check the names who featured in that match. So many other factors as well. 

 

English cricket has seen much bigger highs in its history than a potential win here. Gabba was our greatest cricket feat, so there itself the comparison is rendered invalid. Even if they win here, don't see how it is much different compared to the final test of that 2006 series in Mumbai where they levelled the series 1-1.

I am not doing a literal comparison as no test match, esp. if played in different countries, is usually alike ... "Gabba" (or Melbourne or Sydney) in terms of spirit, after being down and ruled out, playing with a rotated side, without key bowlers like Archer, and so on ... But before we even go there, Eng would need to win (which even at this point is not a given w/ Ind in control with only 4 down so a comeback from this point would appear heroic)

Keeping Indian batsmen in check with 3 bowlers, extremely well done. I think their bowlers know by now none of the batsman can survive long against some incisive bowling.

They always trouble us..  Never managed to find a reason for that.  Extremely tough guys to put away..  Always sneaking & clawing to spoil our party.

Good fighting spirit although skill levels especially batting & even spin bowling aren't that great. I like how Stokes is setting up good batsmen as a second seamer. Ditto with Root contributions with the ball in hand, not something we see with our batsmen.

Root has been impressive, he has not bowled a single bad ball.

england have competed really well this series, which has partly been helped by our batting which has fallen to lows that I did not expect (barring rohit and pant and sundar).

I think if there were 10 test matches played 5 each in either countries.  England will Beat India. India might probably beat every other country. Eng might loose to Aus.
