Which ICC Trophy disappointment hurt most since 2013?

Ditto. Everything was on cue. From selection of squad , selection of team, Toss decisio ,on field strategies and the result everything was expected. This Rohit, Kohli, Pujara combo are not going to win anything. Rahane despite a mediocre career atleast les his B string side to a series win. We didn't have Bumrah either.

don't forget absence of Pants as well

Another ICC Trophy heartbreak
This is the 10th ICC trophy since 2013 that India failed to win.
5 Finals and 4 Semifinals but no CHAMPION tag.

----

DHONI Era

WT20 2014 Final: India had a golden chance to lift the trophy. Everything was going fine until Yuvraj came and messed it up big time. Even 160 would have been enough. But Yuvraj choked. Indian bowlers worked hard and made even 130 difficult at one point. Dhoni would have the only captain to hold ODI WC, T20WC and CT at the same time. This still baffles me how it went away from us.

ODI WC 2015 Semifinal: India were beaten comprehensively by both Australia and England in a triseries just before WC. So India were not favorite to do anything in the WC. But surprisingly all got together very well for India as India topped the group by winning all the matches. It gave a false hope and Aus on the semifinal day just blew us off. Not so disappointing at the end as that 2015 team has lots of cracks.

WT20 2016 Semifinal: Dhoni final ICC Trophy as captain. India were favorite but huffed and puffed to semifinal due to a red hot Virat Kohli. WI  possessed a unique challenge but most of us were confident we will get past Windies and secretly waiting for the real match - India vs England in the final. India got 190 odd despite Rahane slow start and when Bumrah castled Gayle early and the first 4 overs went tight, it felt that it would be easy. And then the Ashiwn NO ball wicket of simmons, dew factor came big and India had no answers to windies powerhitting. Massive massive heartbreak.

KOHLI Era

CT 2017 Final: How can we mess this up? Up against a weakest ODI team Pakistan, we just messed u it up spectacularly right from toss, Bumrah no ball wicket of Fakhar, choking against Amir and everything just went against us on that day. Hurt the most.

ODI WC 2019 Semifinal: Like 2015 WC, India steamrolled opposition in the league stage to top it and look set for the Final until the dreaded semifinal against NZ. It was literally shocking to see Shami out of the team despite being our best bowler right throughout the championship. 240 was still gettable but all hopes were vanished when we had that epic collapse of 5/3. We deserved to be in the final.

WTC 2021 Final:  India topped the league despite a blip in mid of the campaign. Flying high on bating Aus (away) 2-1 and England 3-1(Home), this was India's best chance of ICC glory. NZ was a tricky opponent though having beaten India 2-0 in league phase.  It was all too familiar for India...shaky top and middle order, under cooked preparation and wrong team selection. Even two washed out days couldn't save the day for India.

WT20 2021 Super 12:  A mentally fatigued t20 misfit team led by a terrible captain was humiliated by PAK & NZ and for the first time since 2012, India failed to reach KO. One of the worst campaign.

Rohit Era

WT20 2022 Semifinal:  A better performance than last T20 WC on paper but it was no better. There were glaring holes in both aspects with conservative approach in batting and toothless bowling. Exposed to maximum in the semifinal with a phanity of epic proportion. Only saving grace was a close victory against Pakistan.

WTC 2023 Final:  A second consecutive final in WTC but didn't look that convincing right through the cycle. Series wins against Aus ( 2-1 at home on tacky pitches) and drawn series vs England ( 2-2, creditable but faltered against the only time England played bazball). South Africa away was a huge disappointment (1-2) and even Bangladesh also almost won a test against us. In Final, Australia blew them away and our IPL superstars couldn't do much against sustained pressure.  Pant, Bumrah and KL unavailability left a huge hole and lack of quality players were quite evident.

ODI WC 2023 Final: An epic heartbreak for the nation. India steamrolled everyone on route to final with a perfect record of 10/10. The batting & bowling was delivering match after match except for the one most important match- THE FINAL vs Aus. The batting was timid in the middle overs and the bowling went flat after initial burst. There was no fairytale for Indian golden generation. Gloom & Doom.

Its been 10 years now and 10 ICC trophies without any success for Team India.

An era has also ended with players like Rohit, Kohli, Jadeja, Ashwin and Shami in twilight of their career.

The burden of ICC trophy lies now on the shoulders of new generation.

As a fan, I have also reach the end game having started following team India when I was 10 year old in 1993. Now, I am 40 and no longer intersted in any trophy hunt or cricket in general.

Enjoyed my time following cricket passionatly for 30 years.

Over to young generation players and new fans.

:om:

Bhai ye thhay hi manhoos they were eternal chokers and baah god their PR, matlab TTA ghulami ki bhi hadd hoti hai,I'd say good riddance play fresh set of player's .

After the heartbreak of last month, most of us have regrouped, some moved away, some still following ICT while some left altogether.

One question that still bothers me though: How the hell we fukced up 10 years/ 10 ICC trophies....????? We didn't even fluke one ??

We should have won atleast 4 of the last 10 ICC trophies.

Vs SL, WT20 2014

Vs Pak,CT 2017

Vs NZ,  WTC 2021

Vs Aus ODI WC 2023

Imagine 4/ 10 ICC trophy and we should have been the best team of the decade quite easy.

Then there are trophies like below where luck or fluke could have played its part too....

vs WI WT20 2016

vs NZ ODI WC 2019

The fact is that we couldn't nick even one trophy is such a disgusting feeling. Comparatively, Aus won 4 trophies and England won 2. NZ won one too. These three SENA countries won the last 7 ICC trophies.

Personally, I am not hopeful from 2024 onwards. Maybe when you are not expecting at all, the team may deliver - 2024 WT20. Lets not over analyze and hope for the team to gel together at right moment. No need to take things to heart. Just hope they do well and if they don't well then thats fine also. Move on.

Seniors are expected to take responsibility in KOs more so in finals of these events

But most of them just try to do bare minimum or completely fail

Rohit,Kohli,Kela and even though not so experienced SKY had to stand up against Aus

Kela and SKY were disgusting on display that day

Should have been curtains to their ODI career but this is India where Sponsers decide everything

Had they did a little better which they could have,we could have scored 280+ at worst

Plus Rohit completely choked while leading as well

No slips when ball was flying through those areas several times

Choking of Kuldeep is also not helping either

Bowlers also choose that special day to choke

Definitely not the 2021 WTC final. Maybe we could have drew the game on the reserve day from a comfortable position but that's about it. New Zealand were always going to beat us in those conditions.

More than that, it's the 2016 WT20 that we should have won had luck didn't totally deserted us in the semi against WI. England were there for the taking on the slow turning Kolkata wicket.

It wasn't luck.  They misjudged the track. Rahane played a terrible knock and then said they were over par :hysterical:

Then no ball wickets by Hardik and Ashwin. Such unforced errors, you don't really deserve to win.

2023 WC.

It was our best chance to win an ICC trophy over the last decade; ODI World Cup (among white-ball formats, India does much better in ODI as compared to T20), played at home in tailor-made conditions, scheduling in our favour, plus we dominated most of the tournament till the final, barring the NZ match at Dharamshala, with no visible weaknesses and most of the players in form.

But Travis Head, along with BCCI meddling with the pitch (going for a slow turner instead of a fresh sporting wicket which would have been in our favour) did us in.

2023 WC. Will top the list forever. Part of me as Cricket fan died that day. Sounds exaggerating but this is what it is. Cricket have stopped exciting me from that day, Sky scoring century in t20 or KLR playing lone century knock no more excited me, I feel numb while even following score card.

Nothing excites me anymore. We had also lost every freaking tournament before this wc, but still I kept on following Indian cricket. But this hit very hard, very very hard. I'm just not able to recover from that defeat. A defeat for the lifetime.

Yup.. Soon I'm going to turn 30 and this child-like obsession for Indian cricket needed to end and this wc final did that- may be that is the only positive.
