deepdynamo
India were flying high at start of the decade and won WC 2011 And CT 2013. The next 10 ICC trophies were not debacle since we reached five finals and four semifinals. But there is a feeling of 'not reaching the pinnacle' and 'so near so far'. DHONI Era WT20 2014 Final: India had a golden chance to lift the trophy. Everything was going fine until Yuvraj came and messed it up big time. Even 160 would have been enough. But Yuvraj choked. Indian bowlers worked hard and made even 130 difficult at one point. Dhoni would have the only captain to hold ODI WC, T20WC and CT at the same time. This still baffles me how it went away from us. ODI WC 2015 Semifinal: India were beaten comprehensively by both Australia and England in a triseries just before WC. So India were not favorite to do anything in the WC. But surprisingly all got together very well for India as India topped the group by winning all the matches. It gave a false hope and Aus on the semifinal day just blew us off. Not so disappointing at the end as that 2015 team has lots of cracks. WT20 2016 Semifinal: Dhoni final ICC Trophy as captain. India were favorite but huffed and puffed to semifinal due to a red hot Virat Kohli. WI possessed a unique challenge but most of us were confident we will get past Windies and secretly waiting for the real match - India vs England in the final. India got 190 odd despite Rahane slow start and when Bumrah castled Gayle early and the first 4 overs went tight, it felt that it would be easy. And then the Ashiwn NO ball wicket of simmons, dew factor came big and India had no answers to windies powerhitting. Massive massive heartbreak. KOHLI Era CT 2017 Final: How can we mess this up? Up against a weakest ODI team Pakistan, we just messed u it up spectacularly right from toss, Bumrah no ball wicket of Fakhar, choking against Amir and everything just went against us on that day. Hurt the most. ODI WC 2019 Semifinal: Like 2015 WC, India steamrolled opposition in the league stage to top it and look set for the Final until the dreaded semifinal against NZ. It was literally shocking to see Shami out of the team despite being our best bowler right throughout the championship. 240 was still gettable but all hopes were vanished when we had that epic collapse of 5/3. We deserved to be in the final. WTC 2021 Final: India topped the league despite a blip in mid of the campaign. Flying high on bating Aus (away) 2-1 and England 3-1(Home), this was India's best chance of ICC glory. NZ was a tricky opponent though having beaten India 2-0 in league phase. It was all too familiar for India...shaky top and middle order, under cooked preparation and wrong team selection. Even two washed out days couldn't save the day for India. WT20 2021 Super 12: A mentally fatigued t20 misfit team led by a terrible captain was humiliated by PAK & NZ and for the first time since 2012, India failed to reach KO. One of the worst campaign. Rohit Era WT20 2022 Semifinal: A better performance than last T20 WC on paper but it was no better. There were glaring holes in both aspects with conservative approach in batting and toothless bowling. Exposed to maximum in the semifinal with a phanity of epic proportion. Only saving grace was a close victory against Pakistan. WTC 2023 Final: A second consecutive final in WTC but didn't look that convincing right through the cycle. Series wins against Aus ( 2-1 at home on tacky pitches) and drawn series vs England ( 2-2, creditable but faltered against the only time England played bazball). South Africa away was a huge disappointment (1-2) and even Bangladesh also almost won a test against us. In Final, Australia blew us away and our IPL superstars couldn't do much against sustained pressure. Pant, Bumrah and KL unavailability left a huge hole and lack of quality players were quite evident. ODI WC 2023 Final: An epic heartbreak for the nation. India steamrolled everyone on route to final with a perfect record of 10/10. The batting & bowling was delivering match after match except for the one most important match- THE FINAL vs Aus. The batting was timid in the middle overs and the bowling went flat after initial burst. There was no fairytale for Indian golden generation. Gloom & Doom. WT20 2024 CHAMPION: A spectacular performance by Team India as they buried the ghosts of the past. Yet again, they steamrolled everybody en route to yet another final including crushing victories against Aus and Eng. A slight hiccup in the FINAL against SA but the team was destined to be CHAMPION. A remarkable fairytale ending to Rohit-Virat-Jadeja as they bid adieu to T20I. ------------- ICC Trophies Count after IND triumph in T20 WC 2024. 1) Australia 10 6 ODI WC ( 1987, 1999, 2003, 2007, 2015, 2023) 2 CT (2006, 2009) 1 T20 WC (2021) 1 ICC Test Championship (2023) 2) India 6 2 ODI WC (1983, 2011) 2 CT (2002, 2013) 2 T20 WC (2007,2024) 3) West indies 5 2 ODI WC (1975, 1979) 1 CT (2004) 2 T20 WC (2012, 2016) 4) Pakistan 3 1 ODI WC (1992) 1 CT (2017) 1 T20 WC (2009) 5) Srilanka 3 1 ODI WC (1996) 1 CT (2002) 1 T20 WC (2014) 6) England 3 1 ODI WC (2019) 2 T20 WC (2010, 2022) 7) New Zealand 2 1 ICC Test Championship (2021) 1 CT (2000) 8) South Africa 1 1 CT (1998) Edited July 1 by deepdynamo bowl_out, BacktoCricaddict and Stan AF 1 2 Link to comment
ShoonyaSifar
2017 CT. We were the best team of the tournament, losing to a rag tag Pakistani team (Fakhar hit a 100 ) In 2015, we lost to the best team of the tournament. In 2019, we had completely messed up the team selection and were not going to win anyways raki05 1 Link to comment
Lone Wolf
2014 final & CT17 both were there for the taking. I remember bowlers tried so hard against a gun lankan batting unit to defend a tiny total. Was in Tears that day. Ct17 final was weird.. It kinda made me laugh as we were favorites that day & Sunny G kept reminding Ramiz that during pre show lol. Only screamed at Pandya run out. As soon as Pak scored 337.. I knew we were done. It wasn't our day. WT20 2016 lol we played stupid cricket stupid selections.. Deserved semi exit. Rahane opening yet again. Backed Dhawan till semi rofl max. 2019 Semi.. Enough said about that deepdynamo 1 Link to comment

Vickydev
2019 WC easy. We havent had a stronger bowling attack but poor selections messed it up, plus we self destructed. Chahal's final over in that game probably was the winning margin for NZ in the end. Its perhaps the only time in recent past when we've lost a KO game and the winners haven't gone on to lift the cup. Norman
Has to be the 2019 semi.... Still hate Jaddu for giving me hopes of a miraculous win. 240 was just there for the taking...all we needed was one good partnership of atleast 50 from the Top4 but the serial bottler gang had other ideas. Second would be the 2016 WT20....Those goddamn noballs. Catches taken just touching the boundary cushions.. And then the WT20 2014... Those last four over phase of the Indian innings was just a prolonged third degree torture.... Stan AF 1 Link to comment
Stan AF
WT 2014: Once yuvraj started to struggle, the match was gone. CWC 2015 : We were never in the contest. So no disappointments. ICC CT 2017: India deserved that thrashing for being cocky and overconfident. Still remember how both Ashwin & Jadeja struggled to take wickets and let Pakistan away with the game. Both got dropped for a good 2 years and still struggle to get in the ODI Team. The top order batting failure was a real wake up call for the fans. WC 2019 : This must be the biggest disappointment. But again we didn't learn from our top order failure mistakes in 2017 ct final, so history repeated itself. WOrld t20 2016: Actually I was expecting West Indies to chase it down as they were a solid power hitting team at the peak of their powers. The year before in ipl, Mumbai had chased 194 in just 15 overs so I always knew that West indies would chase it down. MI & West Indian opener Lendl simmons was in red hot form for both the teams. Stan AF
Even now I'm not 100% confident that we can win a white ball world cup trophy under Kohli until like 2023. England is really good in white ball formats and west indies can turn it up big in t20 world cups. raki05 1 Link to comment
rollingstoned
wc 2019 doesn't count because while we had many bases covered, everyone and their dog could see that our middle order and complete lack of proper finishers - *cough* dhoni *cough* - meant that we were always going to be tested at some point when our top 3 failed and that happened in the semi. this after we had similar problems even in 2015 and didn't address it. I blame that on poor selection and preparations. of the lot the most winnable ones were the wt20 2014 and the ct final in 2017. Our poor tactics meant we were under par in that wankhede ground against a wi batting line up loaded with hitters and having to bowl under lights with dew. Sandeep99
2016 WT20 and 2017 CT We were the best team in both the tournaments but lost the plot to give away the advantage. The catches we dropped in 2016 against West indies and the no ball by Bumrah in 2017 will haunt India for few more years. Edited March 30, 2021 by Sandeep99 Link to comment

I full expect us to lose the plot and win little to nothing in the next 3 years was well. Thanks to captain clueless. Lone Wolf 1 Link to comment

India should have won the final if india batted sensibly actually.. the pitch was a belter.. we had defeated pakistan easily in group stages the 2014 final rankles me the most.. we should have won it hands down.. absolutely pathetic strategy in middle overs.. also rahane instead of Dhawan in his first match of the tournament.. india took it easy.. SK_IH
WC 2019, one of the most disappointed days as an indian fan. That tournament finally confirmed Kohli's choking credentials, I thought no he cannot fail always when it matters but he did. Greatest chaser in ODIs, ghanta!!! adi B 1 Link to comment

The group itself was the tougher out of the two. Link to comment
