This is  Sami clocking 145+ consistently in 2016 at 36 years of age, I remember watching this spell, he bowled a lot of balls at 148 kph and was consistently hitting 145+.

He was definitely quicker at his peak, Sami was an express pacer, no doubt about it.

I have seen Sami from the start. He mostly always was 145-150 bowler, did bowl 150+ here and there but not like Akhtar and Lee

He bowled at similar speeds throughout the majority of his career, that is genuine fast not express.

Express is what shown tait is bowling here

Umesh, Aaron, and perhaps even Shami bowled similar spurts at similar speeds.

His release phase is very similar to a javelin thrower. Whipped transfer of energy from the hips and glutes to the shoulder.

I think it'd be good to incorporate javelin-specific workout in a young fast bower's workout.

I am not saying Pakistan has produced many express bowlers but India definitely has never produced one.

From Pakistan, Shoaib and Mohd Sami qualify as express pacers.

Mohd Sami wasn't express

Right now in Asia I'll go with this ranking

Umran

Rauf (I'll put him at 2 coz he ain't young anymore wasn't cranking it up in recent Aus series)

Kumara

Naseem/Tyagi (but Tyagi is tall & naturally more talented)

Shaheen = Chameera = Bumrah

Naseem Shah must wink to get wickets

I think bowling action is the most important factor here, as most express bowlers have a slingy action.

Yes. Slingshot bowlers have been the fastest bowlers around.

Even javelin throw involves slingshot action. But my point was about the transfer of energy. You need strong butts and hips to whip that much energy to the shoulder.

Butts are the most underrated muscle group in the entire body. If you have strong butts, you'll stay away from injuries for most of your career.

Weak butts / hips mean that a bowler will overuse lower back / shoulders / arms for pace. Lower back injuries. Shoulder injuries. Elbow injuries.

Unadcutter playing again today. Luckiest guy around. Wish some of our young guns like Sen, Nagarkoti get even half of the chances that this trashy bowler gets.

Such Misfortune in Indian cricket.  Lot of people still love trundlers.

Trend is changing slowly but unless & until we get completely get rid of these mediocre trundlers mindset won't change.  We need more people like Steyn in IPl.

Doull & Ian Bishop & even Hayden were so pumped up last night watching Umran bowl.
