Not easy to secure places. Ashwin got lucky due to Jamieson's injury.

 

If counties were given an option, they would grab the opportunity to have Rohit, Kohli, Pant, Jadeja, Shami, Bumrah even for one match. Could easily sell additional 1000-2000 match tickets.

i don't get it, you say its not easy to get a place and then proceed to exact opposite in next line

1st line: Not easy to secure places at a short notice (because overseas spots have already been filled). 

 

2nd line: IF the counties had an option, they'd go for Indian players even for one match

Bowled 43 overs for 1 wicket conceding 99 runs. Amar Virdi took 3 wickets. I know we can't be looking too much into statistics but the problem is right there. The English off spinners always outperform Ashwin in those conditions. Ashwin needs to watch how Swann or Lyon operate. He needs to operate outside the off stump bringing slip into play. He can't bowl Indian lines there...

Outside off stump has never worked for Ashwin. His strength to RHB is middle leg bringing LBW and leg slip.  Let him use that , should not try something new.

Good to see Ashwin playing county cricket in order to prepare for the all-important England series, and doing well there.

I firmly believe that the Indian team needed to play at least 4-5 3-day warmup matches against county sides prior to the Test series to acclimatise to the conditions, or even a 2-Test match series against Ireland (where the conditions are similar to that of England) would have been good. Instead, we see, barring Ashwin, the cricketers wasting time and roaming around with their wives and families as if they are on vacation. Intra-team matches are CLEARLY not good practice ahead of a crucial and important Test series.

 

Team India seem to be repeating their mistakes of 2018, when they did not even play a single warm-up match prior to the Test series, and ended up being routed 1-4.

To put things in perspective, the pitch at the Oval suddeny became a square turner for the last 2 days. Leach took a 5-er, another left armer Moriarty took a 4-er. Leach is again spinning it miles.

 

But wickets are wickets, so well done to Ashwin for a 6-er, looked unplayable

In England one spinner is needed.  I think Ashwin is in great form & looks like his fitness is good as well.  Jaddu should get replaced by Rahul.. As he will bat well with Tail & score freely. 

Shami Siraj Bumrah should be three pacers.

Look at the scorecard. Spinners have wrecked havoc even for Somerset - Leach and van der Merwe. I suspect Surrey prepared a beautiful spin pitch at the Oval because they have Ashwin and Virdi in their ranks. Anyway, good that he could pick wickets in England Bodes well for us.

Rahul has never batted in middle overs.If Jaddu is to be replaced,it has to be Vihari.

but he doesnt need to learn from Virdi,guy with 3 wickets in game and zero in 2nd innings under pressure

 

Spinners will always come into play starting from 3rd day even in England,specially if there is no rain/clouds.
