Good win for Team India. Finished strong. GBR must beat or draw with Ire now.

Aus tops group B, so our tournament ends there even if we make it to QF. Nice progress, from 0 wins in 2016 to this.

A draw will take us through as well

Re cricket vs olympics

The thing about Olympics is that most sports in it rely heavily on gov investment.  Was reading the Japanese skateboard gold medalists were given full scholarships to train.

So naturally when tax payer money is involved most citizens of india (who pay an indirect tax no matter how poor) have a right to ask why the returns are poor. This is despite them not knowing the atheltes or being experts every 4 years. I am sure when state or cg underperforms people vote keeping that in mind.

Cricket is pure private sector. Dont watch then fine thats your choice. It has stood up in this country on its two feet. Indians invest out of choice

The women give it their all which is laudable but my couch potato analysis says that in an important game their lack of a clinical edge will cost them in the KO. To some extent the men also suffer from it but i've been given to understand that it's a relatively young, inexperienced team so that is understandable.

None (99%)of these "fans" would follow any of these athlets for the next 4 years. Repeat the cycle come next Olympics they will whine about cricket destroying other sports.

Go watch them support them cheer for them buy their merchandise who's stopping you. But none would.

I for one follow hockey chess cricket all the time. But dnt bash one to impress a section of people

Lol and when Pant wins a thriller against Australian bowlers then everyone will go like Indian cricket team is better than fab 4 era and greatest ever subcontinent side, only to be put down later when losing the test championship final. Our opinions swing more than the ball in England.

I also don't get why there is a trend to shout down on people who are being critical of our olympians without abuses.

I read one sports journalist say Deepika was poor at handling pressure. A fair comment. Immediately you had many people replying asking the reporter what he had accomplished in life? How is this a comparison? Has the reporter of a private news network taken government funds? If Deepika would have won a medal she would take the fame and money that comes with it. Would the reporter get anything?

It appears for a sector of our people being critical or analysing loses should never be done.

This is the kohli syndrome. he told a journalist the same thing after the 2015 saf series I think where he asked them what they had achieved in life that they are questioning the team and the pitches prepared.:giggle:

Typical loser mentality.

As if kohli was sharing his wealth with reporters.

Everything is risk to reward. You reach the top and earn the big bucks, be ready for critique. This is true for kohli or any ceo.

One thing i will say the media needs to stop fixating on ranking. The ranking system is flawed.  It is a crude guide at best. Many nations avoid sending their athletes to meets to hide them in certain sports.

Hiding behind the excuse of not getting support is not going to work.

A lot of Indians are minimalists by inherent nature and dont have the drive to be the best.

Sports in India for most is all about getting govt job on sports quota.

Two more important events for INDIA today at around 3.15 PM IST.

- PV Sindhu semifinal
- Pooja Rani QF in boxing.

If both win today, two more medals assured.

Bruh, as if winning medals were that easy. I know math gods who flunked in International Mathematical Olympiad, doesn't make them mediocre.

No more Korean left in men's individual archery draw. No Korean will take the podium in an archery event, unbelievable.

Campaign has been disappointing. Don't have high hopes.

Others are also winning at the same stage.
