2016- India lost to Ned, Germ and Belguim

2012- India lost all 5 group games.

On what basis can you say we can beat GB and Spain?- when was the last competitive match we beat them in?

this is 2020.

Ok. So how many matches does Ind has to win from here on and against whom to atleast get a bronze :((

India needs to win 3 matches or win 2 draw 2 to go to qtr finals as ranked 3. If they lose another they might still go but as ranked 4 and play Netherlands in qtrs the winner of the other group. From quarter finals you need to win 2 matches to win either a gold Or bronze ( 3rd 4th playoffs)

Yes but expectations are judged on past performances and not jazba junoon.

Why?

Why does performance from 2012 indicate how good a team is now?

Most of the squad would have changed. As would have that of the opponents.

So why in cricket we talk about past performance and past statistics to determine the likelihood of team results in tournaments?

My point is look at the bigger picture.. have India beaten any of these strong teams Aus, Ned, Germany in the last 2/3 years Atleast for us to confidently say we can beat them in the Olympics if need be?

Yes. they have beaten them. How else would India be ranked 4.

Do you mind checking where? I’ve checked the world cups and champions trophy results since 2016.. they have got draws with them but not wins.. I’m not sure which wins you are referring to but they definitely were not during any major tournaments.

India should stick to cricket, although even a sport 95% of Indians are obsessed with we still cant win. any major titles.

The purpose of this thread is to discuss the performance of Indian/Foreign athletes at the Olympics.

If you feel compelled to offer your unsolicited opinion about Indian society and its ills, open a thread in Chit Chat. None of your mindless rants based on prejudiced assumptions and inane generalizations have anything to do with the topic, and will henceforth be deleted.

we beat great britain in 2016 2 - 1. champions trophy. whats wrong with draws? that shows we can compete with the top boys. only aussies are able to consistently beat us.

Actually, if they put their mind into it, BCCI can help us vastly improve the non-Cricket sporting infrastructure in our country. IPL franchises can put together teams and compete in competitions involving sports such as football, hockey, Badminton, shooting, etc. You can see this Concept being implemented in Spain, where Real Madrid and Barcelona have branched out into other sports and compete in Hockey, Basketball, American Football, etc. under their clubs

So again you are dissing the team without knowing what the team has done in last 2-3 years? If you did actually follow the hockey team, you wouldn't ask such questions.

Seems like none of you can read. First it was said why are you going so far back to check results and then I’ve been presented with results from 2014/15/16 jheez.

I am talking about results in 2017/2018/2019 as the most reasonable time frame. I excluded Belgium but was talking about Australia, Netherlands, Germany in THIS period? No we haven’t

Lol. Dude, do you even know Champions Troohy was replaced by FIH Pro League in 2018? Happens when all you are interested is in bashing the team

If it were up to me I would massively cut all the resources that are being spent to cricket in India..  Building cricket stadiums & stuff when we already have plenty is pretty useless imo.

Divert almost 50% of that into other sports.  We are anyways not winning sh** in Cricket so for few years might as well use these vast resources elsewhere.

Indian cricket is at such stage that it won't effect us in any major way.
