Manish Pandey vs SKY as middle order ODI bats for India

I know Manish Pandey is way more experienced and he has some great ODI knocks in his career such as the Sydney chase etc., but for me Surya Kumar Yadav is more valuable ODI batsman than Manish Pandey for Indian middle order.

Manish may consolidate and help situations where wicket is tricky but such situations are becoming increasing rare in modern ODIs. 
Surya can smash boundaries and take the opposition out of the match in no time.

 

I think, if TM has to make a choice, they will have to go with SKY if they want to win more and especially invest for the future.

Wo waha bhi fail hoga , just coz someone plays slow ppl think he is solid. He just an upgrade of rahane against slow bowling but he also gets stuck against them

I feel bad for Manish Pandey, he is a very good batsman for shorter formats but he is now stuck in between the next generation players & Kohli generation. The game has changed immensely since 2015 & Manish's  game is limited in that context & SKY gets the nod due to his versatility

I rated Pandey for many years and wanted him in place of Rahane at no.4 between 2013-16. Finally, he got his chance and showed what he is capable of in Australia. But since then he has failed way too much and never been a part of the side consistently.

 

He has probably done enough to not be considered for any international cricket match and the way things are going even SRH might drop him soon too. He has himself to blame because he got decent chances and at a time when the competition wasn't as high. Now it is very high for youngsters and Pandey is probably not good enough to be mentioned among 30 best active Indian cricketers.

Sky is the only guy who is unique ans doesn't have a backup. We don't have anyone who plays like him. Such a massive talent.

The comparison is not between two like-to-like replacements but two batsmen who are serious contenders with very different characteristics vying for the coveted middle spots of team India. 

Manish Pandey has experience of playing 28 ODIs and 39 T20Is compared to the SKY who debuted in ODIs only this series and limited T20I experience.

While one is known for his consolidation type (preserving one's wicket and building parternships), the other is known for swashbackling nature who can hit from first ball. 

The question is which type of batsman is more valuable for team India... a consolidator type with more experience or a hitting type with less experience.

As I said in my OP, it is the latter I feel is more valuable for team India despite the former's other credentials. I would want to see SKY playing in the Indian ODI team ahead of Manish Pandey. 

In T20Is, there is no debate. We need SKY much more than Manish but for ODIs there is a debate since both kinds of batsmen are needed for a team to succeed in different situations.

I have more confidence in the older SKY than Kishan and Shaw put together,.he may make it to the next WC if he keeps his form.

Manish hasn't  done anything of noteworthy since that 100.. he is lucky to even get selected.  The thing is.. ODIs is all about doing well against top 4 teams who are likely to post above par score.. Manish kind of batsman will play a 30 of 43 innings and lead us to defeat.
