2021 World Athletics U20 Championships

17–22 August 2021

High quality event. India won 1 medal in 2016 (Neeraj Chopra gold) and 1 in 2018 (Hima Das gold - sadly fallen to the wayside due to injuries etc).

Doing well here is a good indication for future potential.

Shaili Singh is one to watch out for. Being coached by Anju Bobby George. She is 17 and holds the under 20 National Record (6.48m).

You need 7+ to win an Olympics medal. So let's see how she goes. Anju was 5th in Athens 2004 with 6.83.

I'll just update with whatever is coming next.

2021 World Wrestling Championships:

2-10 October.

This is a super high quality event. Those who medal here are Olympic medal contenders. Last time Bajrang, Dahiya, Deepak, Phogat etc got medals. Would be interesting to see how the two Maliks shape up.

2021 Men's FIH Hockey Junior World Cup:

24-5 Nov.

We had won last time in 2016 and lots of those kids went on to be part of the 2021 Tokyo Olympic squad. A good showing here can mean a good run in the 2023 WC and 2024 Olympics and even beyond.

Wrestling Federation is hell bent on destroying the sport. They have suspended Deepak's coach instead of supporting him as he was standing up against poor judging, suspended Vinesh and have put Sonam on notice. Their president has been abusing the sponsors JSW and OGQ. Some other coaches contracts will not be renewed as WFI sees them being close to the private sponsors (less chances of siphoning off funds).

If ever there was a fit case for Supreme Court to disband a sporting body, it should be the WFI.

Heartbreaking to see our braveheart girls in tears. Shows how much a medal meant to them.

They will comeback stronger. The journey has only started

It's just a game. England and Australia teams hang out at the pub after the Ashes series, irrespective of which side wins.

Aussie ladies were crying like babies after their QF defeat against us. This is Olympics we are talking about, no cricket match or tournament compares with the greatest show on this planet.

To be frank though most people watch any sports for entertainment, it should not be bigger than that. Kurt Angle is famous for his WWE antics, how many people know that he's an Olympic gold medalist?

Our youth teams in Archery doing well atU-21 and u-18 levels.

Komalika Bari has won two Golds at the event and completed a double of U-18 and U-21 world golds like Deepika did 8 years back.

The u-19 team is doing equally well.

Korea, China and Taiwan did not participate.

Give them mental strength training from right now and they could be potential medal prospects at Paris.

That Silver Medal in Long Jump even for Shaili Singh, she had a jump of 6.59 meters, good enough to be in Olympics finals!

Plus That 10 KM racewalk was a guaranteed gold for Amit till the last 500 meters. Amit Khatri was leading and decided to pick a water bottle. Lost 10-15 mtrs because of that and could not recover.

Some wonderful athletes coming through. Our system needs to nurture them and keep them away from all petty politics (like what the WFI or TTFI is doing)

Indias biggest disappointment was in 2004 and Anju Bobbi Geroge should have won Silver. She finished 6th with 6.83. Then upgraded to 5th after Marion Jones who finished 4th was banned due to doping. The story doesnt finish here. Read on..

The three medal winners from Russia — Tatyana Lebedeva, Irina Simagina and Tatyana Kotova — have since been charged with doping.Infact Anj was upgraded to gold winning status in the 2005 World Athletics Final after Russia’s Tatyana Kotova was stripped of her medal in 2013 following a retesting of her 2005 samples. Tatyana got silver in Athens. Anju along with two longer jumpers from United Kingdom and Australia had asked for an investigation into possible doping violations at the 2004 Athens Olympics and had found support from their respective federations. Unfortunately all samples have now been destroyed as per rules in 2014.

The federations have cited the report by World Anti-Doping Agency’s investigator Richard McLaren, which exposed the institutionalised doping by Russian athletes for years and resulted in them being banned from the 2016 Rio Games.

Such a pity for Anju.. Russian scums

she's 1 year younger than the gold medalist though. just 17.

i think she's already good enough to medal at the asian games. will prolly go to paris and might do well but might not medal there. 2028 and 2032 when she will be 24 and 28 are the real good chances.

should hopefully hit 6.8-6.9 by 2024. 7+ is guaranteed olympic medal.
