rangeelaraja Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 Collectively & Relatively - BD has population & propensity to form decent non-corrupt institutions way better than Pak or SL. This reflects in the way they have risen as a fast growing economy with good socio economic indicators in a sub-continental context. They are more dominant than both Pak/ SL on their home turf. Are they most likely to be the second best team in the subcontinent ? Quite frankly - I feel the developments in Afghanistan are going to take down Pak and with it, its cricket. SL has a major talent draught and is disadvantaged long term vs. a more resourceful BD. Under_Score 1
Ankit_sharma03 Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 Na not for long - i hve seen some talent coming from pakistan......soon they ll be a very underrated side . Infact their test middle order from babar , fawad, faheem, rizwan is quite decent Will try to see whats next for Bangladesh specially after Shakib n mushfiqur . They are not helping their cricket with playing on such turners at home .. Infact as of now they are struggling to find lower order power players, leg spinners which have become a must now in LOI
sandeep Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 No. Bengali team, its admin, its fan base suffers from mismanagement, misplaced "pride", and excitable celebration over sub-par results, i.e. the crime of low expectations that doom them for the near to mid-term future. ravishingravi 1
Jay Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 Nhaa. Will be like India of 90s at best. Dominant at home vs sena teams but struggle away.
Jay Posted September 7, 2021 Posted September 7, 2021 (edited) In odi and t20 on Asian pitches they can definitely cause upsets. Top 4 in the world on Asian conditions. Edited September 7, 2021 by Jay
Vilander Posted September 8, 2021 Posted September 8, 2021 Bangladeshis seem to have some limitations they have not yet come out of minnow mentality. After all these years. sandeep 1
Lone Wolf Posted September 8, 2021 Posted September 8, 2021 Sri lanka will be there.. I think sheer raw talent wise both Poyzzz & Bangladeshis don't come closer to them. They are producing good pacers & quality spinners. Batting has gone down but it will improve.. Corruption is big hurdle. But let's see.
deathmonger Posted September 8, 2021 Posted September 8, 2021 bangladesh will be. in this decade. ultiamtely a function of economy/hdi. india became good as it became richer. they won the u-19 world cup in 2020 so by the time those kids come into the setup they will be no 2. similarly, future india dominance can be predicted by indias good showing in 2016, 2018, 2020. we already have pant/kishan/sundar from 16 and shaw/gill from 18. expect jaiswal from 20.

Gollum Posted September 8, 2021 Posted September 8, 2021 Somehow BD is a pathetic sporting country, even worse than Pak, SL, Afg. Yet to win a single Olympic medal in their history with a population comparable to Pak. Pak youngsters show much more promise, good enough to keep them above BD, SL, Afg for a few more years especially in tests and ICC events. SL has good white ball prospects, unsure about future of Afghan cricket. Norman and Vilander 2

Not good, though they did draw India last year in Salt Lake (we should have lost that but refs helped us big time). There isn't one sport they have ever been good at, only country I can say that about in this region. Unless you consider chess as a sport, they had a GM before India and were leading us in GM count till mid-90s. . All South Asian teams are garbage in football right now, even India's resurgence is overrated and based on easy fixtures. We were a top Asian side in 50s and 60s when Bengal produced many legends and had quality league strength, then Bengal declined in all spheres including football, Indian football too declined. But feel free to make sweeping comparisons that make you feel like you came up with a smart analogy.

And that's not as reliable as it was a couple of decades ago. One "goodish" pacer isn't enough to be successful in test cricket - you need a high quality bowling unit with at least 3-4 good bowlers, minimum 2 of whom have to be pacers. It took India until a couple of years ago, to finally solve its perennial 3rd pacer problem. Bangladesh is a decade, probably multiple, away from this. Norman 1

Pakistan won the u19 WC beating India in 2004 - an India team that had Jadeja, Pujara, Rohit Sharma etc where are those Pakistani players? Anwar Ali swung it like Irfan Pathan in that WC final, and managed to play for Pakistan in a handful of games as a bits and pieces player. u19 WC victories do not extrapolate into the international level, especially tests. Toygers have a long way to go.
