picked because he can apparently bat. Though as good as tailender in Aus conditions.

I don't mind backing genuine all rounders. But between bowling all rounders and batting all rounders I would rather back batting all rounders unless it is someone like Chahar/Thakur who both handle pace better.  Vijay Shankar for all his mediocrity played a role against pakistan in the world cup 2019. Picked Imam ul haq and Sarfraz. Played a mini cameo with bat. Decent fielder.

Most of the finger spinners for other countries are not specialists. Santner/Maharaja two specialist spinners.  But they are good with ball mostly. And also they don't bat at 5,6. Shakib/Moeen/Maxwell/Markram are good enough to play as a pure batsman. Here we have Axar and Ashwin covering for Jadeja who himself is not exactly a trailblazer in this format as spinning all rounder.

Understood. Axar was not going to play anyway ahead of Jaddu.

He was picked during the period when Pandya was injured. Once Pandya had a very successful IPL, the selectors dropped Iyer like a hot potato. Could have kept in the squad at-least.
