Have some of these players denied India a rare test series win in Eng?

Ind in Eng 2021. 5th Test cancelled. 

 

 

Rough chronology of events:

 

• Physio gets COVID
• India still ok to play tests 
• ECB provides assurances so the game can continue
• Players fear of having been exposed to COVID
• Players test COVID negative
• Players refuse to play
• Match cancelled on the match day (can term it as "at the last minute")
• Despite the fears of having been potentially exposed to COVID therefore go in isolation/quarantine in Eng, some of the players fly to UAE with family and other players 
• Flying early would enable them to play the first few games in UAE. If the test were played, they could have missed the initial games  (also a question mark on BCCI's scheduling)

 

 

Currently, BCCI-ECB are working on the issue. Likely scenario:

 

• Test rescheduled. This mean that Ind would not be as well prepared as it is now (already played 5 Tests in Eng including WTC final). Eng could have a relatively full strength squad. 
• Test forfeited. Probable grounds for it as tests are unlikely to be cancelled based on "personal opinions and feelings" of the players. 

 

 

Have some of these players denied India a rare test series win in England? If so, what tough stand should India/BCCI take?

no. India won 2-1.

 

BCCI will give ECB some extra matches next summer and thats the end of it.

 

Test played next summer will be a new series (might give one more).

 

Nothing to do with opinions/feelings. Physio contracted it who was in close contact. Extremely justified to cancel. If ECB appeal they will lose.

Based on the cricket that has happened over four tests, every neutral would agree that India were a better team of the two and deserved a scoreline of 2-1 win.

if i was kohli, i would have picked up an 11 and played a Test.

 

even indian players played with nattu siraj, shardul ashwin ..that pace attack was weak . still played n won against australia.

i thought some indian players may not play but i didnt expect it to cancell.

If a team makes 300 in a odi, the 2nd team is 30/6 in 8 overs and the match gets called off due to rain, would that count as a win for the side that made 300?

 

Commonsense is India would have won this 3-1 but now it is a cancelled series with India leading 2-1 with a *. 
 

England have gotten away I think and if I were the ECB I would do exactly the same of not accepting this as a series loss and so would most here if the shoe was on the other foot

At the moment, the series is not considered over:

• ENG is working at both a) Test being considered forfeited by India, and b) India also playing a one of test match on its next tour to Eng 
• Ind is ok to play a test on its next tour to Eng, counting it as the rescheduled 5th test. Beside the test, India is also willing to play extra T20s (so some of these players have put India in a fix)

 

The England board has written to world body ICC seeking adjudication to decide the status of series which India led 2-1 when the fifth and final Test in Manchester was called off.

BCCI president Sourav Ganguly though said on Monday that the series, stopped after four Tests, isn’t over yet. “The rescheduled Test match (yet to be finalised) next year should be considered the fifth Test of the series,” he said. “India has the chance to win a series in England for the first time after 2007. The series should be completed.”

While ECB has welcomed BCCI’s proposal to play a Test during India’s scheduled white-ball tour of England next July, its CEO Tom Harrison has said that Test can only be treated as a “standalone” match.

ECB’s view differs. “It wasn’t the outbreak of Covid, it was the perception of what might happen post their (India’s) physio testing positive,” Harrison told Sky Sports last week.

The Indian board is also willing to play extra T20Is in England to help them recover the losses. “Playing extra limited-overs matches is not an issue. But the final Test should be the decider,” Ganguly said on Monday.

India are keen to claim their first series win in England for 14 years to go with their second successive triumph in Australia. Virat Kohli’s side had the momentum heading to Old Trafford after a brilliant victory at the Oval.

Indian players pushed for cancelling the final Test worried more could test positive for Covid due to close contact with physio Parmar. Some former England players have been critical, saying the Test cancellation was done due to IPL, which resumes in the UAE on Sunday.

I would have played the game too. Even in Euro, many teams continued to play the tournament despite COVID cases in the teams  ... To me, this is not just Kohli but also a move instigated by Rohit, leveraging on the opportunity, to be able to play the first IPL game 

 

PS With Ravi Shastri in isolation in London, the Indian position at the discussion table was taken up by the captain Virat Kohli and senior batsman Rohit Sharma vociferously.

At this point based on what has been put out by BCCI & ECB, there are two scenarios for the 5th test - a) reschedule or b) forfeit.

Ian Ghanta!!

They will get insurance money and India needn't offer anything. BCCI can even cancel the white ball series in that case citing any facking reason.

BCCI has never committed to play extra matches even if ICC adjudicates that match is forfeited, as you think.

I don't think this or that. I am laying down the possibilities based on what is been put out by the two boards: Even if the 5th test gets forfeited, Ind may still have to play a standalone test in lieu of the cancelled 5th test by its players. 

 

Nothing wrong with playing a test if needed.

Nothing wrong with playing a test if needed. 

To state it as a possibility, there should some indicationgiven by either board,where are you getting these hints

I have read all articles. Nowhere in that it says BCCI will accommodate additional match in whatever circumstances. It says India will play a one-off test to cover losses. If there a forfeiture, insurance pays and there are no losses.

It is a common practise to evaluate possibilities based on positions of both boards, not just one board. As discussed, the range of possibilities extends from the test being rescheduled to forfeited, along with playing a test in lieu of the forfeited test. 

 

Buddy, also you need to be consistent with your posts. Earlier you said - "To state it as a possibility, there should some indication given by either board,where are you getting these hints". Now you are talking about one board.

Buddy, it is ok if you think it is a possibility. I don’t think so. And I was just curious, if you know more than that meets the eye.
